The Ghana National Film Authority will be launching the Presidential;film pitch series today, Wednesday 28th April 2020, at the;Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Dubbed ‘Strengthening the Ghana;film ecosystem’, the Presidential Film;Pitch Series is a film activation program in Ghana aimed at creating the;platform for Ghanaian; filmmakers with projects within;the film ecosystem to engage;investors, broadcasters, distributors, sponsors, and platforms;around the world for potential opportunities.
According to a statement by;the Authority, there will be a total number;of 100 projects. However, only 25 will be accepted;for the final Presidential pitching.
“In a very difficult;period for filmmakers, the NFA is collaborating;with key platforms to aggregate and market;completed film projects.
“100 Projects in the form of documentaries, feature;films, short films, series, games, film infrastructure;were received by the National Film Authority;(NFA) from Ghanaian film;entrepreneurs, out of which twenty-five (25) have been shortlisted. The goal is for the;shortlisted projects to;close deals that will bring them to fruition”.
The participants of the Presidential Film Pitch;who part of the shortlisted;will be pitching their projects to some;investors;, broadcasters, distributors, and;sponsors from all around the world. That notwithstanding, the;pitching is scheduled for two days, Thursday, 29th April and Friday 30th April.
This project follows some movie;industry players lamenting;that there are no or little investors to help market and push;their projects to gain some international recognition.
NFA collaborates with OFWA for a project
Meanwhile, this is just one of the many;projects the National Film;Authority has embarked on to help develop the film;industry in the country. It can be recalled that Authority, in;;collaboration with; the Open Foundation West Africa,;embarked on a Wikiproject last year September.
The NFA Wikiproject was aimed at;advancing the Film and Creative Arts;industry through Wikipedia and;other related open projects;that can; ensure visibility for the Ghana Film Industry. Also, the project;was intended to profile various prominent;filmmakers and projects within the Ghana film ecosystem;and make such information;available and accessible to all through Wikipedia and the NFA website.
The idea was to aggregate as;many profiles as possible for the industry. The project was; strategic to the authority’s;objectives: to develop, enhance;and uplift the face of the industry.
Just like the Presidential film pitch, there was;a call for nominations for;various filmmakers and projects;within the Ghana film ecosystem to make;; information available and;accessible to all through Wikipedia and the NFA website.
But then, unlike the Presidential;; pitching where there;will be a physical gathering for the launch, the;NFA; Wickiproject was held virtually due to the advent of COVID.
