Renowned gospel singer Noble Nketsiah has opened up about his journey to musical stardom, highlighting the crucial role his colleague Esther Smith played in launching his career.
In an engaging interview, Mr Nketsiah shared personal anecdotes from his early years, offering a glimpse into the struggles and triumphs that shaped his path to success.
“When I completed secondary school, I had a bad relationship with my mother because she wanted me to further my education and become a doctor. I was very intelligent, so she didn’t understand why I didn’t want to go back to school. Also, my songs reminded her of the issues she had with my dad, so she was trying to stop me from singing”.

The renowned gospel musician further pointed out that due to his determined spirit to support his family, he turned to selling secondhand clothes.
“I used to sell secondhand clothes. I had siblings who were also in school, and if my mother sacrificed to take care of me, the least I could do was sell to support her in taking care of the family,” Mr Nketiah stated.
This sense of responsibility, he noted drove him to work diligently while nurturing his dream of becoming a singer.
Noble Nketiah’s Encounter with Esther Smith
Mr Nketiah further indicated that a fateful encounter with Esther Smith, a fellow gospel singer who lived in the same estate, became the turning point in his career.
He recounted that one morning, as he was preparing for his day’s business, Mrs Smith heard him singing and was immediately captivated by his voice, which she persuaded him to accompany her to the studio to record some songs.
“We recorded a few songs. Not knowing it, the songs we recorded were liked by someone, who paid me a huge sum of money, and that’s how my career started”, Mr Nketsiah shared.
He indicated that the unexpected turn of events led to a major breakthrough revealing that he earned approximately GHC2500.00 from his first song, a considerable amount at the time, which marked the beginning of his successful music career.
Reflecting on his journey, Mr Nketsiah expressed profound gratitude for Esther Smith’s pivotal role in recognizing his talent and providing the opportunity that propelled him into the spotlight.
Near-Poisoning Incident Amid Showbiz Jealousy
In a startling revelation, the renowned gospel musician shared a harrowing experience from his early days in the showbiz industry, highlighting the dangerous levels of jealousy and animosity he faced.
Mr Nketsiah recounted how he narrowly escaped being poisoned during a performance trip to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
Mr Nketsiah recalled his visit to a local radio station for a pre-event promotional appearance, stating that the show, which featured other gospel artists, quickly became centered on him as callers overwhelmingly demanded to speak with him.
This unanticipated favoritism he noted bred resentment among his fellow artists, marking the beginning of a sinister episode.
“I went back to my hotel to prepare for the programme that made me travel to Obuasi. I ordered food before going to freshen up. I was in the bathroom when I heard noises in the hotel’s parlor. I went out to find out what was happening. Not knowing, a mentally ill person had entered the hotel and poured the food I ordered away”.

Mr Nketsiah noted that his discovery of the altered color of his food led him to the chilling realization that someone had attempted to poison him.
He emphasized that the mentally ill stranger’s unexpected intervention likely saved his life, highlighting the unexpected dangers that lurk behind the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry.
