Last Tuesday, February 14 was Valentine’s Day and globally, people spent the day expressing their love and creating beautiful memories with gifts and vacations.
While many events were held prior and even on Valentine’s Day to mark the occasion of love, there are a number of them hanging on to offer more doses of love this weekend.
One such event is the ‘Love Locked Down’ concert headlined by award-winning rapper, Okyeame Kwame, which will take place at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill, Accra on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
According to the ‘Woso’ hitmaker, the upcoming event will also be a platform to share the tenets that have contributed to his successful marriage of 14 years and equally shape the idea of marriage.
He said;
“In May 2021, my wife and I launched our first book, ‘Love Locked Down’ to share our kind of love and how it has helped our union. The inspiration came from the many questions my wife was asked about what we were doing right at the time.
“However, after two years, I think it is prudent to bring action into these words to broaden the understanding of how love can be truly demonstrated”.

The team of musicians will be backed by the High Skuul Band to create the right love atmosphere and a good love experience for patrons.
My pride will be bruised if my wife foots the bills in our home
Rapper Okyeame Kwame born Kwame Nsiah-Apau says his pride will be bruised if, at any point in marriage, his wife decides to financially cater to their relationship and family’s needs.
According to the self-acclaimed Rap Doctor, he has been socialized as a man to be responsible for all the financial needs of the home.
In view of that, he would not allow his wife to take that responsibility from him no matter how much she earns.
He further added saying;
“We were all brought up in a socio-cultural concept. And I have been socialized that even if my wife is a trillionaire, I must give food, take care of the children and be the one to provide for the accommodation.
“So for me, that type of service is attached to my ego, so if a woman is doing it for me, I will be offended”.
Okyeame Kwame
Okyeame Kwame made this revelation when contributing to the topic “Do independent women expect men to be providers?” in an interview on Friday 17, 2023.
The rapper also believed that considering the socialization of women in Ghana, particularly, in the Akan setting, a woman despite being economically independent would want that minuscule support from her partner.
“Most women are programmed through their parents to understand that a man must take care of you. For instance, when an Akan woman is getting married, she’s told ‘If you get any assets or children bring it home, but if you obtain liability send it to your husband’s house.
“So this is the programming a woman has received culturally, so once the woman is in that relationship, and she’s making lots of money, she will still have that idea of expectation that a man must provide for her needs”.

This idea, according to Okyeame Kwame, has influenced the mentality of most women with regard to splitting the cost of marriage.
