Veteran Actress, Rita Dominic, has disclosed how Nollywood marketers banned her for wanting change.
She recounted how influential marketers used their power to ban her from the movie industry.
Rita Dominic revealed that marketers, seen as the mini-gods of the Nollywood movie industry at the time, banned her from the business.
“Before I decided to become a producer and form our company, I was silently banned. Marketers silently banned me from Nollywood because they were the mini-gods of Nollywood,” Rita Dominic said.
“They banned me because I was trying to do things differently, I just felt like it got to a point where if you want to acquire the services of an actor, it is best to talk to their management about it,” she added.
Meanwhile, reflecting on her early days, the actress mentioned receiving N10,000 for her first movie role.
The actress mentioned that Nollywood wasn’t lucrative when she started acting, but her passion for the craft kept her going.
Dominic said: “I just wanted to be an actor. And to be honest, there was no money in Nollywood back then. We were just doing it for passion. We have a passion for the art which was what fuelled us.”
“It was very challenging. But we just kept doing it until the industry got bigger and bigger. And obviously, the pay became much better,” Rita Dominic explained.
When asked about the lowest amount she ever received for a movie role, she said: “The first film I did, the filmmaker paid me N35,000. But he owed me N25,000 for how many months? In fact, he didn’t even pay me the balance. He paid me only N10,000.”
Rita Dominic On Tying The Knot At 46
Rita Dominic has disclosed why she chose to marry later in her forties.
According to her, she desired to marry at her own pace, and for genuine reasons rather than succumbing to societal pressure, she remained steadfast in her resolve.
She said that although she faced pressure from society to marry early, she turned a deaf ear to those cries.
“Like I always said, I will marry the man of my dreams and not the man of society’s dreams for me, because if anything goes wrong tomorrow, I’ll be the one left to pack up the pieces and not the society. I wanted to be sure that I was marrying for the right reasons and not for the reasons, you know, that stems from societal pressure,” Rita Dominic said.
Rita Dominic opened up about her marital life and shared insights into her journey towards finding true love and happiness.
She noted that, while she met many decent men, they weren’t compatible, and she isn’t the type to force things when they aren’t working out.
“Marriage is nice and interesting. We were friends for a long time and then we found love, and then we dated and we got married. I wanted to be sure that I was marrying for the right reasons and not for societal pressure.
