Sarkodie has debunked speculations on social media that he is a secret smoker due to his recent poses with cigars in his most recent photos.
This comes after fans expressed their displeasure in the rapper when he was spotted in photos posing and a cigar. Many suggested that the rapper is now showing his true character and see him to be a smoker behind closed doors. A die-hard fan of the rapper even took to social media to express his displeasure in Sarkodie, telling him that he is now a father and as such must lead a good example for his two kids.
In reaction to this, Sarkodie revealed in an interview that he is “not a smoker”. He explained that the cigars he normally holds in his pictures symbolizes his achievements and celebration for all he has garnered over the years.
Sarkodie further disclosed that his relations with his family at home and that of what happens on the cameras are totally different. He therefore requested his fans, not to judge him or even tag him as a bad example to his kids.
Well, it can be recalled that just recently, some Civil Society Organizations in a statement criticized Sarkodie for posting pictures of himself smoking. They requested that Sarkodie should apologize for posting such pictures.
However, reacting to this in the interview, Sarkodie questioned to whom he should apologize. According to him, he doesn’t see any wrong in posting pictures of himself with cigars.
“I don’t know if I am wrong or why they want me to apologize… I don’t know who wrote that thing for me to come and apologize for holding a cigar.
“I get it, but they should get the fact that there are people who have done worse and they singled me out. They shouldn’t get too carried away and ask me to come and apologize”.

That notwithstanding, the BET award-winning artist admitted smoking cigars isn’t a good habit but his cigar-smoking photos on social media shouldn’t be the reason “many will be calling for my head”.
“If you do a little bit of research on cigars, it is true that smoking it is not good but what cigar represents is celebrating success and achievements. When you look at athletes, they do it and the fact that you don’t inhale it into you is why I like it. It took me a while to get the nerve to put the photos out”.

Sarkodie also disclosed he was shocked it took Ghanaians about a week to react to the photos since he expected it earlier. He iterated that he is not a daily smoker so, people shouldn’t see him as such.
“I don’t wake up a day feeling for cigars… it’s for what it represents… if I don’t feel like it, I wouldn’t. It’s natural if you don’t want to hold it, you wouldn’t”.

The ‘No Pressure’ crooner also revealed he received lots of pressure from his mother when the news broke out that he had shared such photos.
It is worth noting that on Sarkodie’s ‘No Pressure’ album, the first song after the intro is ‘Rollies and Cigars’, and this many have said depicts the rapper’s recent love for cigar fashion and culture.
