Ghanaian musician, Kidi has revealed the motive behind the ‘I’ll be back’ statement he made on stage during the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

This follows some Ghanaians subjecting him to massive trolls with many believing that he was full of himself and that it was arrogant of him to have made such a statement.

However, in an interview today, Kidi explained that making that statement was out of being hopeful and not pride and arrogance like some people are thinking. According to him, he was just encouraging himself since he was mostly nervous that night.

“I believe in the power of the tongue. I mean it’s good to speak positivity into your life. Saying ‘I’ll be back’ had nothing to do with arrogance or pride. It was just me giving myself hope that I’ll come back and take more awards. I was giving myself vim. Because I was mostly nervous the entire night. Apart from I’ll be back, I don’t remember anything I said on stage that night because my mind was blank”

Among some of the major trolls on social media was one that painted Kidi to be a demon. These trolls who are speculated to be staunch Christians were of the view that Kidi lost to Diana because she is a gospel singer.

Speaking on this, Kidi expressed his disappointment when he saw some of the tweets from people throwing such shades at him. He noted that some of these unpleasant tweets make him wonder if “one is a demon if he’s not doing gospel music”.

“People should put it at the back of their mind that, the fact that I don’t do gospel music does not make me a demon. Because a lot of the posts I have seen from the Christians especially were going towards the direction of ‘How dare you go against God? Do you think you can come and beat ‘Adom’ with ‘Say Cheese’? So, I asked if I am a devil. Honestly, some Christians are just hypocrites. The fact that I am doing secular music doesn’t make me less righteous. If you people go to your weddings after playing ‘Adom’ you play ‘Say Cheese’. But today you want to put me on a chopping board and paint me as the devil. Let’s not do that.

“I have been brought up from a Christian home and so, I understand the essence of grace and favor. And I understand the will of God. I believe whatever happened at the VGMA was the will of God and who am I to fight that. It wasn’t my time; it was Aunty Diana’s night to pick it. So be it. When it’s my time I’ll pick it up”.

Kidi also revealed that he was never angry but only disappointed when he lost the Artiste of the year award to Diana Hamilton.

According to him, he believed that everyone who got nominated in that particular category deserved to win and although he had high hopes in winning the award and got disappointed, he was never angry.

He also mentioned that when Diana was announced as the winner, he gave her a standing ovation as she walked up to the stage to take her award.

“Even after they mentioned the winner, I was still taking pictures with people. If I was actually angry, I would have destroyed the phones of anyone who will come to take pictures of me”.

Kidi over the years has had great performances time and again. However, several people were not very impressed with his performance at the just ended VGMAs. Touching on this issue, Kidi conceded that indeed his performance during the event was below what was expected of him. According to him, several contributing factors led to his “poor performance”. However, he intimated he cant disclose the reasons to the public.
