Ghanaian self-acclaimed dancehall King, Shatta Wale has been nominated for two awards at the 39th International Reggae And World Music Awards.
The dancehall artist was nominated for the categories of ‘Best African dancehall entertainer and visual entertainer’. That notwithstanding, Shatta Wale competes to win the ‘best African dancehall entertainer’ with the likes of Stonebwoy, Buffalo Souldjah of Soth Africa, Patoraking of Nigeria, and Winkiy of Zimbabwe.
It is also worth mentioning that 13-year-old Ghanaian Disc Jockey, DJ Switch, has also been nominated for an award. More so, international reggae dancehall artist, Buju Bunton earned the highest number of nominations. He is having 11 nominations for different categories.

Organizers Hopeful For A Spectacular Event
Meanwhile, Mrs. Rosemary Duncan, the Public Relations Manager at IRAWMA noted that the virtual fete will feature performances by international musicians and entertainers.
“There will be audience across continents; Africa, Europe, Asia, North, and South America, the Caribbean. They will cheer on nominees and winners of various genres- reggae, dancehall, gospel, afro-beats, calypso, soca, and Latin music; It will be spectacular”.
That notwithstanding, President of IRAWMA, Ephraim Martin, further emphasized that “One person, One vote. Vote for the best… Not because he or she is your artist or on your label”.
Mr. Martin further disclosed that the number of awards has been reduced as compared to previous years. According to him, the organizers of the program included two new categories and renamed some other categories.
“This year, because of the Pandemic, we have reduced the number of categories for Awards to 32. Plus, the Special Awards of Honor, and we have added two new categories; namely: Virtual Entertainer of the Year and Best Virtual Showcase. We have also, renamed the “Best Soukous Entertainer” to “Best Afrobeat Entertainer. The first-ever Toots Hibbert Award for ‘Best Album/CD’ will be sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports (MCGES)”.
Also, IRAWMA’s Operations Manager, Jacqueline Jackson, said “Music affects our mood. As such, people tend to listen to music that helps to put them in a better mood. In this time that we are all experiencing, we thank all the artists, new and old. Especially those who produce songs that inspire and uplift us, as we navigate this reset that we are going through”.
