Simi Shares Her Approach to Managing Stage Fright

Simi

Nigerian singer and performer, Simi has shared her personal experience with stage fright and how she overcomes it.

Simi revealed that she has struggled with stage fright in the past, but has developed a strategy to manage it.

According to Simi, the initial performances of a new song can be likened to trying on a new pair of shoes. She needs time for her brain to become familiar with the song, allowing her to overcome her nerves.

Simi shared a clip of herself rehearsing a song from her latest album, ‘Lost And Found‘, and explained that repetition is key to building her confidence.

“The first few times I have to perform a new song (any song) live on stage is like trying on a new pair of shoes that needs adjustments. I don’t know why that is. Lol. Maybe it’s cos I have a history of pretty bad stage fright. Now I have to give my brain time to bond with the song so it can learn to disregard me and my nerves.

“Anyway this night, I kept rehearsing this song (maybe overly so), because it was my first time performing it on stage, and of course, the nerves came. But I have one or two more to go until I get out of the way and my brain takes over lol.”

The songwriter further described her new musical project, Lost and Found, as a ‘labour of love,’ sharing the personal connection she has with the project.

“I made this album and I wanted people to listen and remember why they fell in love with me in the first place,” Simi stated.

“Most of my songs are for the audience. I’m an artist and I tell stories. I love telling stories and painting pictures because I feel like people can see themselves in them. It just feels real and I use lots of pidgin in my songs.”

The album features tracks such as “Miracle Worker”, “You know it”, and “Borrow Me Your Baby”,  among others.

Singer Reveals She Doesn’t Listen To Any Artists’ Music

Nigerian songstress, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, stated that she doesn’t listen to other artists’ songs aside from her husband, singer Adekunle Gold.

She explained that she only listens to Adekunle Gold’s music because they are married.

“I don’t listen to anybody’s music, the reason I listen to my husband’s songs is because I’m married to him. I like Post Malone’s first album ‘Beerbongs & Bentleys’. I love J.Cole. I don’t listen to anybody’s music. Nothing changed. I just don’t know.

“I don’t really listen to anybody’s music. The reason I’m listening to my album now is because it just came out. In a few weeks, I probably won’t listen to it as much as I do now.”

Simi

The songstress turned to the X platform to vent her frustration at being misrepresented in a recent interview.

The now-viral interview where Simi made the comments was met with backlash.

Taking to X in reaction, Simi restated that she truly doesn’t listen to music, except her husband’s.

“I’m deading that shit immediately. I said I don’t listen to music. I don’t know songs. If I wasn’t me, I wouldn’t know my songs, and if I wasn’t with my man, I probably wouldn’t know his either because I don’t listen to anything.”

Simi

Simi further criticized the nature of certain interviews and the toll it takes on celebrities.

“I hate doing these stupid interviews sometimes because they don’t care about supporting you. They will either lie or post things out of context so people can pile on you. I hate wicked people,” Simi added.
