Stonebwoy has voiced his frustration over the negativity he often faces from a section of Ghanaians, particularly on social media.

Speaking in an interview, he recounted how a lighthearted moment on TikTok Live with Nigerian influencer Peller turned into an unnecessary controversy back home.

“It’s heartbreaking. It really is. And it needs to be addressed. In 2025, it’s sad that this kind of mentality still exists among us as Ghanaians.”

Stonebwoy

The musician explained that his interaction with Peller was completely unplanned. He had been on a live session thanking fans for their support when the young influencer joined.

“I didn’t even recognize the name at first. I declined it twice before finally accepting. And then, we started vibing. I saw an opportunity to turn it into a promotional moment, so I joked about flying him to London.”

Stonebwoy

However, what was meant to be a positive and engaging moment turned into an online debate, with some Ghanaians finding unnecessary reasons to criticize the interaction.

“Instead of pushing the moment forward, we now have to defend it. And by the time we finish defending, the momentum is lost.”

Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy compared this situation to a past incident at the Grammys, where he introduced himself to a global star, only for some Ghanaians to ridicule him instead of celebrating the networking opportunity.

“You go to the Grammys, you’re connecting with Taylor Swift on the whole carpet, ain’t nobody talking to her, I say hi, we vibe and there was a negative reception by some of the Ghanaian populace. It’s interesting that it becomes the popular narrative, which then destroys the whole quality of what we can churn out of such moments. That’s the sad part. We should be elevating our own people, not dragging them down.”

Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy believes that this pervasive negativity may deter other artists from seeking opportunities and connections essential for advancing their creativity and careers.

He urged Ghanaians to be more supportive of their artists and recognize that every positive step they take benefits the country’s music industry as a whole.

The multi-awarding winning dancehall artist expressed deep gratitude for the love and support he received during his recent tour of the United States and Canada.

The Ghanaian musician described the experience as an eye-opener, emphasizing how difficult it is for an African artist, particularly one from Ghana, to break into global markets. “I’m feeling very grateful, very, very grateful,” he said.

“This was my first solo winter tour, and it wasn’t easy getting people to come out in those conditions, especially in America.”

Stonebwoy

According to him, the tour, which was aimed at promoting his latest album, saw impressive turnouts despite the cold weather and other challenges.

He noted that it was inspiring to see different audiences, including Gen Z fans, embracing his music.

“The reception has been amazing. I can confidently say that my music appeals to a wide range of people—from the presidency to the last guy in the hood. That’s beautiful to know.”

Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy also reflected on the challenges Ghanaian artists face in making an impact on the global stage.

He explained that unlike Nigerian artists, who have gained a stronghold internationally, Ghanaian musicians still struggle against internal and external barriers.

“The odds are against us, and we all know this is no secret. It takes extra effort to push through.”

Stonebwoy

He expressed appreciation for the people who have supported his journey and vowed to continue working hard to elevate Ghanaian music worldwide. “I feel incredibly thankful, extremely thankful,” he added.
