Popular Ghanaian songstress, Efya Nocturnal has stated that she does not get pressured to gain international recognition like other artists.
Efya believes that her attaining international recognition is only a matter of time, thus she is not in a hurry to release any projects to speed up the process.
“There’s no pressure for me; it’s just a process. I believe I’ll get there; it’s just the timing. Everybody’s timing is different, so I don’t have to rush myself to go and do something just to add something up. I do not rush it; everything I do is already intended and planned. I am not rushing to do things,” she said.
Efya expressed her indifference, should she be asked by her fans why she has yet to attain any international awards despite her long-standing in the music industry.
“I have won about 45 awards in my career, I am not thinking about what they’re thinking… It’s for me first,” she said.
She further called for an end to the unnecessary comparisons between artists, stating that the Ghana music industry does not have access to the funding artists in other spaces, notably Nigeria have access to.
“We come from a place where the industry is not as big as in other places. So please stop comparing. We don’t have the financial assistance as most of these artists do to be signed to international labels to be able to get access to some of the things that these people are getting access to,” she noted.
Efya’s comments come on the back of the ongoing debate over the Ghana music industry and the performance of artists. The controversy recently reignited with the release of the 2024 Grammy nominations list which was devoid of any Ghanaian artists.
Many stakeholders have called for an end to the pressures placed on Ghanaian artists, while fans on social media have accused artists of being lazy with their craft.
Also, she revealed that her best collaborations are songs she did with Sarkodie.
Efya has over the years, exhibited great artistry either on her own songs or joint music projects.
Some of her highly-rated collaborations are ‘I’m in Love with You’ and ‘Saara’ by Sarkodie; ‘Hold Me Down’ by Akwaboah, ‘One of Your Own’; by Efya featuring Bisa K. Dei, among others.
She is currently out with her new EP titled ‘No More Tears.’
Importance Of Therapy To Artists
Efya emphasized the importance of therapy in the lives of every musician as they embark on their music careers.
She asserts that most musicians live a complicated life hence, seeking therapy helps to shape their minds, as well as prepares them for the plans they set to achieve.
“For the management to provide therapy for their artists, I think that is a wonderful idea. So that they will be mentally okay before they step out into the world because it is not easy. I think therapy is important for every artist because as creatives, it is not easy for us because we go through a lot that we cannot express all the time and also because of the eye that is on us. So, we try to maintain and be a little private as usual. I think therapy is very important for any artist.”

Aside from musicians, Efya Nocturnal urged her fans to go for therapy as she thinks everyone needs a sound mind to go by their daily lives.
“I feel like therapy is necessary for everybody. As human beings, we all have a very complicated mind that we are trying to figure out daily so it is just about yourself in the right environment so that you can protect yourself and your mind,” she said.
