‘Marwako’ is currently trending on Twitter and several people are asking why the already ill-famed restaurant is making waves on Twitter.
The Twitter trend started after a user, Edward Elohim, took to the microblogging app to lament a case of food poisoning he suspected he got from Marwako.
“@Marwakofastfood gave me and many others in this hospital the worst food poisoning ever,” Elohim tweeted.
Like every bad news, Edward Elohim’s tweet quickly caught the attention of other tweeps and his tweet became like a wildfire. His tweet was retweeted several times and several people commented on the post. Several other users who quoted or retweeted Elohim’s tweet also accused the fast-food service of putting them in a similar situation over the weekend.
Per the information they gave, several patronizers of Marwako East Legon Branch, who bought food from the popular food joint, are suffering from food poisoning which landed them all in hospitals.
Other reports also indicate that at least five children have been hospitalized and are in critical condition after eating food from the restaurant. According to available information, the five children have been in an Emergency Room (ER) of an undisclosed hospital since Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Currently, some affected customers have hinted at taking legal action against the fast-food service.
“I have been absent from work for the whole week because I decided to eat at Marwako. When I recover I am definitely taking them on. And by the way, my lab results came with a negative on malaria,” one Twitter user, @fernandez_kpodo wrote.

Others are calling for the Food and Drugs Authority to take action against the company.
Meanwhile, the management of Marwako fast foods is yet to release a statement to address the concerns.
Mawarko already on ‘chopping board’
This is not the first time the fast-food operators have been caught up in controversy and causing national outrage. It can be recalled that in 2017, a trending hashtag emerged, #BoycottMarwako, after news of an assault on a worker occurred at one of the branches of Mawarko.
Evelyn Boakye, who was a worker at Marwako, reported her manager to the police for rubbing her face in blended pepper. Evelyn narrating her story disclosed that the supervisor, Jihad, after rubbing her face with the pepper, locked her up for several hours with her burning eyes before allowing her to step out of the fast-food joint in Abelenkpe, Accra.
Management of Mawarko suspended the supervisor before he was arrested by the Ghana Police for his actions towards his subordinate. Jihad Chabaan later rendered an apology to Evelyn Boakye, however, she didn’t accept the apology as she was only interested in justice.
The then Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba, swore to handle the case seriously. According to her, nobody’s right should be infringed upon and that it was a lack of respect, on the part of the supervisor that led him to commit such a “diabolic action”.
“We need to respect our employees because we cannot do what they do,” Otiko Afisa Djaba said at the time.
