Nigerian singer, Timaya Inetimi

Nigerian singer, Timaya Inetimi, popularly known as Timaya, has been allegedly arrested, following a hit and run accusation from an Instagram user.

Viral videos that emerged on social media shows the singer being taken away by men in police uniform. In another video, the singer is seen explaining to the policemen while making gestures to the car parked outside a certain building.

Though the reason for the arrest has not been made known to the public, several people have suggested that it may be as a result of the hit and run accusation that occurred at Lekki area of Lagos State.

Details of the Hit and Run Incident

An Instagram user, under the name Osinubi Omowunmi, raised alarm about a hit and run on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, stating that the victim involved was her sister.

Omowunmi alleged that the singer hit her sister’s car and when he was confronted, he hit her sister with the car and quickly drove off.

She wrote on her Instagram page: “These celebrities and how they behave. Timaya nearly killed my sister. He hit her with his car and run at Ikate a few hours ago”.

Explaining in detail what happened, Omowumi wrote: “He hit my sister’s car and she came down to ask him to look at what he did. This heartless human was asking for her number and she told him he would block her. Instead of @timayatimaya to do the needful, he hit my sister with his car and ran away.

“She is at the hospital right now in serious pain and the funniest part is that, I messaged him [Timaya] on Instagram to do the needful, but this wicked fellow blocked me after reading my message”.

In the early hours of today, March 3, 2022, Timaya amid the accusation took to social media to make a post. As though to respond to the accusations, Timaya wrote in pidgin English: “Me no get no bad mind for nobody”.

Social Media Users Offended Over the Issue

Timaya’s response did little to help salvage the issue as several social media users called him out to own up, and take responsibility if he actually did what he is being accused of.

The whole issue also comes as a surprise to several social media users as they can’t imagine how Timaya, who recently called for peace and unity, could be involved in such an act.

It can be recalled that Timaya, implored world leaders to embrace unity amidst the global tension rising currently. The music star made this call via a post on his official tweeter handle. He wrote: “World Leaders calm down. We need a Cool Earth & Cool Heads”.

The musician made note of this while alluding to the ongoing strike by Russia against Ukraine which has generated global outcry among many world leaders.

Timaya’s solo career began in 2005 with the release of ‘Dem Mama’, a song which also appeared on his debut album, ‘True Story’ released in 2006.

His last body of work titled ‘Gratitude’, in 2020 marked his 15 years career in Nigeria’s music industry. The album was Timaya’s seventh project under his label, DM Records. It is worth mentioning that the 15-track record has no featured artist.
