Twene Jonas Calls for Sammy Gyamfi’s Suspension After Conduct

Twene Jonas and Sammy Gyamfi

US-based Ghanaian social commentator, Twene Jonas, has called for the suspension of the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, by the close of Monday, May 12, 2025.

This comes after a video of Sammy Gyamfi doling out dollars to the controversial Evangelist Mama Pat, also known as Agradaa of the Heaven Way Bible Church, went viral.

The acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board was seen counting dollars in the backseat of a Range Rover, intending to give it to Agradaa, who was impatiently waiting. Initial reports indicated that the amount was $1k, but Agradaa later clarified she only received $800.

The gesture from the young politician generated a lot of backlash online, considering John Mahama’s promise to Ghanaians that his public officers will be accountable during his second administration as President.

He issued an apology on social media, describing his gesture as an act of kindness.

“To clarify, this was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need. I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined that it could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable.”

According to Twene Jonas, Sammy Gyamfi’s apology isn’t enough. The social commentator shared a video expressing his frustrations about the politician’s conduct.

In the video, he referenced the President’s decision to suspend Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo as he stated his expectation for the President.

“If you can suspend the Chief Justice for misusing taxpayers’ money on family vacations abroad, you should do the same to Sammy Gyamfi for splashing taxpayers’ money on a new Range Rover, which he has packed a lot of dollars, dashing them to criminals like Agradaa.”

Twene Jonas

Some Ghanaians reacted to Twene Jonas’ hot take on Sammy Gyamfi’s controversial encounter with Agradaa.

“So just 800 dollars and you people are doing as if he gave her 1 million dollars, and the money too is his own money and he can use it anyhow he wants.”

Prophet Kumchacha, Agradaa, and Sammy Gyamfi

The founder of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, Nicholas Osei, popularly known as Prophet Kumchacha, addressed the raging controversy surrounding Sammy Gyamfi’s recent actions.

Prophet Kumchacha claimed that Nana Agradaa deliberately set Sammy Gyamfi up for public condemnation.

He explained that Nana Agradaa, the former priestess turned evangelist, always wants to be in the news and would do anything to trend. “She deliberately approached Sammy Gyamfi and instructed her camera crew to record her interaction with him. So, this is clearly a set-up,” he said.

He further urged the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board to sue Nana Agradaa for recording him without his permission.

Prophet Kumchacha also appealed to President Mahama to forgive the young politician. According to the prophet, the calls for Sammy Gyamfi’s removal were unfounded, as he did not commit any crime.

“It’s not a crime to give people money, but it’s not to everyone you should give money to. Nana Agradaa was not the right person.”

Prophet Kumchacha

Prophet Kumchacha’s video has sparked widespread reactions from many Ghanaians on social media.

“The question is why did Agradaa video the incident? she planned it.”

@asabee

“Prophet have said it all, Sammy mess up big time. It is set up and Sammy should know better. Agradaa will use this same issue to insult Ndc party in future. If sammy have finished helping the grassroots then he should go help market women.”

@Unclejoe also

“Sammy giving his own dollars away is not my business, but my biggest business is Mama PAT never deserves that money seriously, NDC hard working youth needs that money most, but man of God, I believe you.”
