Ghanaian model, Victoria Michaels, Ghanaian broadcaster, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), and American fashion designer, Virgil Agbloh were all honored at the just ended FashionGHANA Honors & Awards.
The anticipated and historical moment, which took place at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, witnessed the best of the creative and style industry people receive their well-deserved awards and honors.
Victoria Michaels who was honored on the night, for her immense contribution to the fashion industry speaking with The Vautlz Media (TVM) said: “I am truly honored to have received this award. And I hope this award inspires every young, up and coming model to just go out and do their best”.
That notwithstanding, Ghanaian Nigerian model, Naomi Irabor who won the award for the best runway model and Female model for the Accra Fashion Week expressed her excitement over her winning.
Speaking with TVM, the model who is with the Super Star Model agency noted that she wasn’t expecting the award as the category was a very tight competition. According to her, she only had little hope of winning therefore winning two awards on the night was a great sign for her.
it is worth noting that the event emerged right out of a vigorous intense public voting to reveal some very interesting results on the night. However, participants in the fashion industry were assured that all winners were heavily scrutinized by a board who just like the public have the power to select an ultimate winner for a category.
Speaking on the back of this, Naomi confirmed that indeed the decision of who should win the award was in the hands of the mass and a committee who also have the ultimate power to even disqualify and qualify a winner.
When asked about her plans after winning the award she said “Well, we are off to a beautiful start and I hope to be booked all year for more fashion shows. This award is definitely going to propel me to greater heights. I am looking forward to more clients, bigger jobs, so hopefully next year, I get better”.
Naomi, who is also a Public Relations final year student of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), revealed that “modeling for me is just a part-time job. It’s not a full profession for me”. She explained that she aspires to land herself a good job in one of Ghana’s top consulting agencies and push herself to attain other achievements.
Touching on who she looks up to be, Naomi disclosed that just like her name, she aspires to be or even more than the iconic supermodel, Naomi Campbell. According to the Ghanaian-Nigerian model, it will be a dream come true if she actualizes that aspiration.
That aside, the event was hosted by celebrity comedian, Shegelabobor, alongside popular Ghanaian style songstress, Efe Keyz.
According to the organizers, the aim of FashionGHANA Honors & Awards is to fill in the gaps of the fashion industry to raise it to standards comparable to other sectors in Ghanaian entertainment. fashionghana fashionghana
The communications secretary of Fashion Ghana said:
“It seems like the movie and music industry has risen to levels that our fashion industry hasn’t reached yet. However, none of these entities can exist without the fashion industry. Fashion is not entertainment, it’s a necessity, like food and water, and it’s high time we give our fashion creatives the acknowledgment they deserve”.
