Popular Ghanaian actor, Yaw Dabo, has said YouTube is more profitable than selling CDs, pushing back against claims that the digital era has ruined the local movie industry.
He explained how the video platform has changed the game for actors and producers. “YouTube gives creatives more control over their work and income,” he said.
He pointed out that in the past, actors and producers had to depend on CD distributors, who often failed to give clear reports on how many copies were sold. “This made it easy for people to be cheated out of what they were due,” he added.
The Kumawood actor explained that YouTube’s system is more transparent.
“Creators are paid based on views, and they can monitor how their content performs.”

He added that some actors earn large amounts of money from YouTube productions, showing that the platform can be a steady source of income for those involved.
Many of his colleagues have said that the switch from physical copies to digital platforms like YouTube has contributed to the collapse of the Kumawood industry.

The actor noted that those who have adapted to the digital era were making money, and in some cases, more than they did during the CD era.
His comments differ from those made previously by senior actor Akrobeto, who said digital platforms have disrupted how local movies are made.
Akrobeto suggested that the end of physical copies contributed to the decline in film production and earnings. His comments on YouTube stirred reactions.
“Our movies need to hit the international markets, the Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime. Our storylines for the local movies are whack except for a few like Bensouth.”

Yaw Dabo Disappointed in Don Little Over Recent Allegation

Ghanaian actor Don Little’s recent video of him looking wobbly as he headed for his car was condemned by his colleague, Samuel Yaw Dabo.
Yaw Dabo, who has worked with Don Little, regretfully lamented about his alleged conduct.
According to him, he felt bad when he saw the video of his colleague walking alone on an unidentified street in the middle of the night.
Don Little seemed to struggle a bit as he walked to the blue Toyota Corolla parked by the roadside. He looked unsteady and almost slipped while trying to open his car door and sit in the driver’s seat.
People gathered around the diminutive star speculated that he had taken alcohol and was overly intoxicated.
The Kumawood actor blamed his colleague for putting his life and other road users with his alleged attempt.
“I always talk to my brother, Don Little. You’re a star. You have to know that in all you do. You need to move with someone who can at least take the car when you get drunk.”
Yaw Dabo

Yaw Dabo further urged his colleague not to put his life at risk again.
“What I’ll tell him is that he must not gamble with his life and that of others. When you’re drunk, you put your life at risk. The same for other road users. That incident must never happen again.”
Yaw Dabo
The actor has previously encountered legal trouble due to driving-related offences. In 2023, he was involved in an incident where he knocked down a motor rider at Kasoa in the Central Region while he was rushing his friend to the hospital.
Don Little was subsequently arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer who apprehended him for his role in the unfortunate accident. Footage of him being escorted to the police station surfaced online at the time.
The actor is a former protege of Funny Face who was convicted and imprisoned last for drunk driving and causing harm to road users.
