Ghanaian musician, Yaw Sarpong has refuted some allegations made by Adwoa Penamang, a woman who has insisted that she is the wife of the gospel music star.
At a Sunday church service at New Jerusalem Chapel where he is receiving treatment, Yaw Sarpong clarified that he and Penamang are no longer together.
Yaw Sarpong further clarified that their marriage was not legally formalized and, therefore, did not require a legal divorce.
“It’s been 20 years since I divorced Penamang. I was asked to bring a ring and soft drinks to perform the marital rites. However, she began to act out.
“Instead of staying in Accra to look after the children, she moved to Kumasi. I reported the issue to her father. By that time, I had recovered from my illness.”

The renowned musician also dismissed claims of an affair with fellow musician, Maame Tiwaa, and explained his decision to allow her to care for him rather than Penamang.
“Many of the things she [Penamang] mentioned, I don’t even recall. I let Tiwaa take care of me because she has been a pillar of support in my career, particularly during challenging times. Those who allege Tiwaa has taken me away from my wife are misinformed. I have not married Tiwaa.”

Yaw Sarpong also mentioned that he has had no communication with Adwoa Penamang over the past two decades, which makes her recent claims and efforts to reconnect surprising.
He is convinced her renewed interest might be influenced by the recent GH¢100,000 gift he received from Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia.
The gospel musician emphasized that he has moved on but will resolve all outstanding issues with his ex-wife amicably.
This follows an interview where Adwoa Penamang disclosed how the family has mistreated and neglected her since Yaw Sarpong took ill.
The interview has drawn criticism from some members of the public who feel the interview was unnecessary as it tarnishes the image and legacy of Yaw Sarpong.
Kwaku Manu Expresses Disappointment in Children of Musician
Ghanaian actor, Kwaku Manu expressed his disappointment in the children of gospel musician Yaw Sarpong regarding the controversies surrounding his ailment.
According to him, in such a troubling moment, he expected Sarpong’s children to have shown love to their father and catered for him when he fell sick, to show appreciation.
He noted that even if the veteran gospel artiste did not do enough to cater to their upbringing or give them properties as they would expect, the children should have been there for the musician.
Speaking in an Instagram live session, Manu said that Yaw Sarpong’s children sitting aloof while their father is disgraced publicly without commenting to defend him is disappointing.
“Yaw Sarpong’s children have made a big mistake; it means you don’t know the impact of your father in this country. Maybe you expected your father to build mansions for you before giving him the needed respect.
“You are allowing your father to be embarrassed in his sickness. As mature people, you should know how to conduct yourselves in these troubling times. I am very disappointed in the children.”

Regarding Yaw Sarpong’s wife, the actor said, “For the wife, I will deal with her later. You don’t make such remarks on radio.”
Radio and TV personality, Afia Schwarzenegger also went hard on Auntie Naa and her production crew following her interview with Yaw Sarpong’s wife on the radio.
In a self-recorded video, Afia Schwarzenegger dragged Auntie Naa quizzing her about her position in the Ashanti Region to settle issues for people.
According to her, it is only someone sitting on a stool in the Ashanti Region who is allowed to sit on cases.
She lashed out again by quizzing Auntie Naa about why she failed to settle her marital issue with her ex-husband but rather went to marry another man and what even made it worse is she made the wedding private.
