Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede has taken to Instagram to address the backlash she received over her comments about actor Yul Edochie and polygamy during a recent podcast.

In a statement posted on her Instagram account on June 12, 2024, Jegede clarified her intentions and expressed regret for any misunderstanding caused by her words.

“I Yvonne Jegede would like to address the concerns and backlash that have arisen from my recent interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast where I discussed themes related to my latest film on Amazon Prime, A Father’s Love.”

Jegede expressed deep regret that her comments had been perceived as dismissive of Yul Edochie’s estranged wife May Yul-Edochie.

She emphasized that it was never her intention to cause any pain or disrespect and offered a sincere apology for any offense caused.

“Upon reflecting on the interview, I realized that my words were not articulated in a way that conveyed my true intentions and had been misconstrued as insensitive, particularly towards Mrs. May Edochie, a woman who has endured significant pain and hardship occasioned by estranged marriage.

“I deeply regret that my comments were perceived as adding to her distress. It was never my intention to cause any pain or disrespect. I am truly sorry.”

The actress went on to stress that the essence of her interview was to shed light on her new movie, adding that her statement was to highlight the cultural aspects of polygamy in our society.

“I want to clarify that my remarks about polygamy were meant to reflect its cultural context and to emphasise that how it is practised is crucial.

“My goal was to convey that polygamy is part of our culture, but what matters is how it is approached. Unfortunately, my message was lost in my articulation.”

Jegede’s apologies come as she stated that she saw no problem with Yul Edochie taking a second wife because most people come from polygamous homes themselves.

Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie lashed out at her colleague, Yvonne Jegede, over her apology to May Edochie, the wife of their colleague, Yul Edochie.

Yvonne Jegede defended Yul Edochie for marrying a second wife as she slammed those criticizing him and praising Regina Daniels.

Her statement didn’t sit with many social media users who mercilessly dragged her for being insensitive and ignoring May Edochie’s pains.

Following the backlash, she apologized to her fans and May, stating that she didn’t articulate her words properly to convey her trust intentions and acknowledged May’s pains and hardship during her marriage.

Reacting to it, Angela Okorie called Yvonne a failed actress with no pedigree. She slammed her for being insensitive to another woman’s pain as she noted how Yvonne and her cohort PR said she was mad for propaganda.

Angela Okorie further lashes out at her for making a public apology to May, as she took a swipe at her for still being dumb despite her longevity in the industry.

“Oh well, not every mother is a mother, not every wife is a wife, and some wives are knives. Yvonne, from that podcast, you showed how low and senseless you are. You know some Nollywood girls are used to becoming second wives from snatching people’s husbands, so it is normal to them; else, how can a woman that sucked her mum’s breast for 9 months talk like this.

“Now, you are writing nonsense Epistles, numbskull upon say you don old for Nollywood you no blow, still no get sense. Abeg shift make I see human beings.”
