Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician will perform routine and specialized laboratory tests, maintain quality standards, and ensure the accurate handling and analysis of patient specimens. The successful candidate will uphold laboratory best practices, maintain regulatory compliance, and support the Centre’s commitment to delivering outstanding patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialised laboratory tests in accordance with established laboratory procedures and quality standards.
  • Collect, receive, process, label, and store patient specimens accurately and safely.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Implement and monitor quality control and quality assurance procedures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Record, analyse, and report laboratory findings accurately and within established turnaround times.
  • Maintain comprehensive laboratory records and documentation in compliance with regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Adhere strictly to infection prevention, biosafety, and occupational health and safety protocols.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory and assist with the management of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Collaborate effectively with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.

Qualification Required & Experience

  • Diploma, HND, or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.
  • Valid professional licence issued by the relevant regulatory body.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
  • Experience in fertility or reproductive health laboratory procedures will be an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory quality management systems and quality assurance practices.
  • Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and laboratory information systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of accuracy, professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
