Award winning Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo popularly known as Sarkodie, has disclosed that the year 2023 is a year of giving back to the people who have made him who he is today.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the just ended Black Star Line Festival, the BET award winner stated that, “Performances and releasing music box already ticked. There’s more to you when given this much attention and you can only give back to who and what made you.”

“I have been saying this for a while, but I have been working on other things aside music, so the energy will be more of giving back to this industry that made me Sarkodie.”

The rapper further spoke about a few factors that has led to his success in the music industry. According to him, he has been able to keep his name and brand growing for the past 10 years due to those factors.

“I’ve been able to find the right people at the right time, having the love for music, being yourself and also having the grace of God.”

Sarkodie began his music career as an underground rapper and participated in the popular rap competition ‘Kasahare Level.’

Today, he is a household name in the Ghanaian entertainment industry with more than five albums to his credit. He is rapper, songwriter, and an entrepreneur.

Sarkodie’s contributions to the Ghanaian music industry have earned him numerous awards, including the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for “Artiste of the Decade”. He was announced the first winner of BET’s Best International Flow artist at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards. The rapper is also considered one of the major proponents of the Azonto genre and dance and also one of the most successful African rappers of all time.

Sarkodie often raps in his native language Twi, a Ghanaian Language and is considered a ‘multifaceted rapper’ due to the various musical styles he possesses.

On July 13, 2013, he launched The Sarkodie Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting underprivileged children. He made a generous donation to the Royal Seed Home Orphanage in Kasoa sometime back.

On December 25, 2014, the foundation embarked on a feed the kids’ campaign in Tema, where they provided thousands of kids with bags of rice, yoghurt and beverage cans. They also gave away school bags, water bottles, hats and other items. Sarkodie also owns the Sark by Yas clothing line, which was launched on April 27, 2013.
