Shaibu Haruna Crowned ‘CEO of the Year – Fintech’ at 4th Ghana CEO Awards

Shaibu Haruna, the Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney LTD, has been honoured as the CEO of the Year – Fintech at the 4th Ghana CEO Vision and Awards.

The prestigious event was held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra and attracted top industry leaders and stakeholders across more than 30 sectors.

Shaibu Haruna’s recognition as the standout CEO in the fintech category reaffirms his role as a pivotal figure in shaping Ghana’s digital financial landscape. Since his appointment in 2022 as the CEO of MobileMoney LTD, a subsidiary of Scancom Plc (MTN Ghana), Haruna has driven a wave of innovation and strategic reform that has firmly established the company as a digital finance powerhouse.

The awards panel commended his commitment to accelerating financial inclusion, pushing the boundaries of digital payment solutions, and enhancing customer-centric innovation. MobileMoney LTD under Haruna’s stewardship has remained at the forefront of the fintech revolution, helping millions of Ghanaians—especially the unbanked and underbanked—access convenient, secure, and inclusive financial services.

A Seasoned Executive with Pan-African Experience

Shaibu Haruna brings over 25 years of commercial experience across Africa and the Middle East, spanning sectors such as Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Automotive, Financial Services, E-Commerce, and Telecoms. The last 18 years of his career have been spent in the telecoms and digital services sector, where he has led business transformation projects and channel development strategies in Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia.

His career within MTN has been particularly impactful. Haruna is credited with designing and implementing the highly successful MTN Ghana distribution model, which has become a benchmark for operations across several MTN Group markets. His leadership has consistently focused on efficiency, scalability, and inclusivity—principles that have guided the evolution of MobileMoney LTD’s services.

Since its establishment in 2009, MobileMoney LTD has played a critical role in Ghana’s financial transformation. From facilitating basic peer-to-peer transfers to enabling complex merchant payments and government disbursements, MoMo has grown into an indispensable platform. Under Haruna’s leadership, the company has deepened its integration with e-commerce, micro-lending, savings, insurance, and investment products—all designed to improve the economic wellbeing of its users.
