The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has successfully submitted his nomination forms to the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In a statement, the National Democratic Congress legislator, and Chairman of the Assurance Committee of Parliament indicated that the move marks another step in his bid to retain the parliamentary seat and continue representing the people of North Tongu.

“My 2024 Parliamentary Nomination has been successfully filed with the Electoral Commission in my beloved North Tongu.  I am profoundly grateful to my dearest constituents for defying the rains and walking with me to the EC’s office. But of course, under the umbrella, we are safe with all weather conditions”.

Hon. In addition to filing his nomination, Hon. Ablakwa used the occasion to unveil a significant initiative aimed at alleviating the plight of victims of the Volta River Authority (VRA) spillage, who have been displaced from their homes and are currently living in temporary shelters.

The National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for the North Tongu Constituency announced the creation of a GHS 100,000 emergency rent support fund, designed to help these individuals secure decent rental accommodations.

“Today, I also launched a North Tongu MP’s GHS100,000 emergency rent support fund to assist VRA spillage victims still languishing in tents to find decent rental accommodation as we continue to fearlessly and justifiably advocate for their permanent resettlement”.

He emphasized that the initiative is part of his broader advocacy efforts for the permanent resettlement and compensation of all Volta River Authority spillage victims.

“I shall not rest until the last victim is adequately catered for”, Hon. Ablakwa emphasized.

Hon. Ablakwa reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people of North Tongu with “utmost dedication, integrity, humility, dynamism, and a progressive vision,” highlighting his intention to sustain diligent parliamentary oversight to protect the interests of all Ghanaians.

His gratitude also extended to the National Democratic Congress Women’s Wing in the North Tongu Constituency, led by Victoria Doe, who according to him played a key role in organizing the nomination event and presenting his nomination forms.

Hon. Ablakwa expressed his appreciation for their hard work and emphasized the collaborative spirit of his campaign, adding “We shall work very hard and smart to create a brighter and empowered North Tongu“.

The filing of his nomination marks a significant milestone for Hon. Ablakwa, who has been a vocal advocate for his constituency and a champion for human rights, accountability, and social justice in Ghana.
