The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has successfully submitted his nomination forms to the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the 2024 general elections.
In a statement, the National Democratic Congress legislator, and Chairman of the Assurance Committee of Parliament indicated that the move marks another step in his bid to retain the parliamentary seat and continue representing the people of North Tongu.
“My 2024 Parliamentary Nomination has been successfully filed with the Electoral Commission in my beloved North Tongu. I am profoundly grateful to my dearest constituents for defying the rains and walking with me to the EC’s office. But of course, under the umbrella, we are safe with all weather conditions”.

Touting his stellar performance in the previous elections, the MP recalled the historic margin of victory he secured in the 2020 general elections, asserting that North Tongu Constituency recorded the widest victory margin nationwide.
Hon. Ablakwa confidently asserted his constituency’s ambition to surpass this record in the upcoming 2024 general elections, driven by what he described as “Operation 94%,” a strategic effort to rally even more support for the National Democratic Congress presidential candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama.
Emergency Rent Support Fund for VRA Spillage Victims
In addition to filing his nomination, Hon. Ablakwa used the occasion to unveil a significant initiative aimed at alleviating the plight of victims of the Volta River Authority (VRA) spillage, who have been displaced from their homes and are currently living in temporary shelters.
The National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for the North Tongu Constituency announced the creation of a GHS 100,000 emergency rent support fund, designed to help these individuals secure decent rental accommodations.
“Today, I also launched a North Tongu MP’s GHS100,000 emergency rent support fund to assist VRA spillage victims still languishing in tents to find decent rental accommodation as we continue to fearlessly and justifiably advocate for their permanent resettlement”.

The fund, according to Hon. Ablakwa would prioritize female applicants and will be completely free and non-refundable, underscoring his deep commitment to addressing the immediate needs of his constituents.
He emphasized that the initiative is part of his broader advocacy efforts for the permanent resettlement and compensation of all Volta River Authority spillage victims.
“I shall not rest until the last victim is adequately catered for”, Hon. Ablakwa emphasized.
Hon. Ablakwa reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people of North Tongu with “utmost dedication, integrity, humility, dynamism, and a progressive vision,” highlighting his intention to sustain diligent parliamentary oversight to protect the interests of all Ghanaians.
His gratitude also extended to the National Democratic Congress Women’s Wing in the North Tongu Constituency, led by Victoria Doe, who according to him played a key role in organizing the nomination event and presenting his nomination forms.
Hon. Ablakwa expressed his appreciation for their hard work and emphasized the collaborative spirit of his campaign, adding “We shall work very hard and smart to create a brighter and empowered North Tongu“.
