Alan’s Reasons For Resigning Not Justifiable – Miracles Aboagye

Kyerematen to meet over 200000 delegates in cluster meetings

The Director of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development at the Presidency, Dennis Miracle Aboagye has stated that the Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, had no genuine reasons to resign from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the Former Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem North, all the concerns that were raised by Mr. Kyerematen were addressed by the National Council of the New Patriotic Party.

He indicated that Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s reasons for resigning from the New Patriotic Party were mainly due to his interest and desire to contest as the President in the 2024 General Elections.

“Alan has no genuine reason to quit NPP. He resigned based on his selfish, parochial interest. He raised the issues and they were addressed.”

Mr Miracles Aboagye also refuted claims by Mr Alan Kyerematen that he was not allowed to operate fully in President Akuffo Addo’s administration.

Alan’s Independent Candidacy Will Make Him A Kingmaker In 2024

A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante, indicated that former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen will be the kingmaker in the 2024 general elections as an independent presidential candidate.

Dr Asah-Asante stated that Mr Kyerematen who resigned from the New Patriotic Party to enable him contest as an independent candidate is influential in the Asante, Eastern, and Central regions.

According to the political scientist, Mr. Alan Kyerematen level of influence in these regions would make him likely to push the 2024 General Elections into a second round.

“If he and the smaller parties can galvanize about 1.5 million votes, it will push the elections into the second round,”

Dr. Asah-Asante

Dr. Asah-Asante also emphasized that even though Mr Alan Kyerematen knows very well he is not going to win the 2024, his candidature will destroy the fortunes of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

“His absence will create the difficulties for New Patriotic Party. Alan can be the kingmaker. He knows that he is not going there to win, he is going there to rock the boat of the NPP.”

Dr. Asah-Asante

Dr Asah-Asante further stated that the nature of the politics in Ghana makes it difficult for a third-party force to thrive. He noted that the duopoly, the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party have been well institutionalized and would therefore be difficult for a third party to make an impact in an election in Ghana.

Meanwhile, Private Legal Practitioner, Lawyer Martin Kpebu,  is of the view that former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen will not be anything different from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government if he wins the elections as an independent presidential candidate.

Mr. Kpebu said Mr Kyerematen was part of the economic challenges created by the government which he served for seven years before his exit.

“I don’t support Alan, he is too much of NPP and he will come and do the same thing, he is part of the problem, Alan can’t appeal to me”

Lawyer Martin-Kpebu

He therefore called on religious groups and trade unions in the country to come together and present a candidate for Ghanaians to vote for in the 2024 General Elections as he believes the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress have both failed the country.

“We are looking for anything other than NPP and NDC regime.  There is no way I will vote for anybody from the NPP and the NDC. TUC had a party in the 70s, they should come again.”

Lawyer Martin-Kpebu

Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former candidate for the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential Primaries, resigned from the party on September 25, 2023, and declared a four-point platform for his campaign to run as an independent for the presidency in the 2024 general elections.

In his speech, Mr Kyerematen, a Former Minister of Trade and Industry, promised to create and head a new MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE in Ghana to fulfil his aim of running as an independent candidate.
