Bawumia Receives Plaudits For Conducting Dignified Campaign ‘Under Fire’

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Lawyer, Kofi Bentil, has commended Vice President and flagbearer aspirant, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for conducting what he described as a dignified campaign in the lead-up to the November 4 election.

According to him, he assessed the field before anyone did years ago, and he boldly declared that of all the other candidates, Dr Bawumia was the best.

He revealed that the Vice President managed all manner of attacks on his person and even his wife, “my own Samira, with the needed restraint and decorum”.

“Mahmud my brother, good luck in the coming Primary… I am glad to say, across the years you have proven that my trust was not misplaced. You have conducted a most dignified campaign whilst under fire.”

Kofi Bentil

Mr Bentil revealed that Dr Bawumia’s biggest baggage has been the performance of the team he is part of. He explained that even though party members outside who helped bring the team into power have received their criticisms, he can’t equally escape that.

“I have always told the critics that I have no regrets for fighting hard for the best team at the time to take over. If they failed, that was their failure, I would do it all over again and will push for the best team each time.”

Kofi Bentil

Furthermore, Mr Bentil lauded Dr Bawumia’s patience exhibited on many occasions and his refusal to condemn his own team, which “was a positive mark of teamsmanship”. He noted that the Vice President showed loyalty to the team.

“Regardless of what happened, you did not go out denigrating your own team even when they failed. You stood and took responsibility. Of course, I know how much has gone wrong, but I also know who to blame, what’s important is that you had your successes in the midst of the problems, and you did not do the easy thing of jumping out and accusing others. You stood with the team – everyone would like a team player like you.”

Bawumia tipped to win election

Moreover, Mr Bentil highlighted that he is aware of the limitations Dr Bawumia had in the team and why his best efforts did not materialize entirely. To this end, he urged him to “take heart” because some of the best programmes and successes of the team has his name on it.

“And those who know understand that some of the failures were not your doing. In any case, If you had denigrated your own team, I would have criticized you for that. It is not the mark of an honorable person to do that, so kudos for standing with the team even through hard times.”

Kofi Bentil

Commenting on the imminent December 2024 election, Mr Bentil noted that when Dr Bawumia finally faces the NDC, it will also become clear that he is a better choice, when compared to the “very fine gentleman John Mahama”.

He emphasized that he is glad Ghana has two fine gentlemen to choose from but comparing Dr Bawumia’s relative track records against his roles and the opportunities he has had, and also what he has to show for them, it is clear that he is the better choice.

“Now your time draws nigh, you have come across the period from when I stated my endorsement publicly and have proven me right. Thank you for not letting me down. Whether you win or not, I know you’re the best choice. Everything I checked makes you the best of the lot for the present contest.”

Kofi Bentil

Meanwhile, Mr Bentil reckoned that time has proven that his confidence in the Vice President is not misplaced. To this end, he assured that the future will vindicate him when Dr Bawumia wins and resets the republic and provide the effective leadership Ghanaians deserve as a nation.
