Dept. AG Casts Doubt on NDC’s Audio Evidence

Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has cast doubt on the genuineness of the audio recording released by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that its authenticity is questionable.

Accordingly, Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah vehemently rejected the NDC’s allegations, launching a forceful defense of his superior, Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, and dismissing the claims as unfounded.

The NDC has released an audio recording allegedly featuring a conversation between Attorney General Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, an accused person in the controversial ambulance purchase case, and is subsequently calling for the Attorney General’s resignation.

The party also alleged that the audio recording substantiates its claim that Attorney-General Godfred Dame attempted to coerce Richard Jakpa into implicating Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the tape serves as concrete evidence of this wrongdoing.

More so, Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah countered that the NDC’s demand for Attorney-General Godfred Dame’s resignation is entirely unsubstantiated and lacks any credible basis.

“The Attorney General is very resolute, firm, healthy, and is undertaking his duties as Attorney General. He is currently out of the jurisdiction and very soon he will be back to continue his duties as Attorney General”.

Furthermore, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah emphasized that the audio recording would have no bearing on the ongoing ambulance procurement case, in which Attorney-General Godfred Dame is embroiled, as the legal process would not be swayed by this development.

As such, he stressed that the Office of the Attorney General’s role in court regarding the said case is distinct from the political posturing and public debate unfolding in the public sphere, and the two should not be conflated.

Minority Chief Whip Renews Call for AG’s Removal

Meanwhile, the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, reiterated his demand for the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, to be removed from office, echoing the opposition’s persistent calls for his resignation.

According to the Adaklu MP, Kwame Governs Agbodza, Godfred Yeboah Dame’s actions have tarnished the reputation of the Attorney General’s office, and his removal is necessary to restore the office’s integrity and uphold the public’s trust.

“There are so many people in the NPP who can occupy the high position of Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame is the last person that should occupy that position”.

Moreover, the Lawmaker asserted that the Attorney General’s glaring ignorance of procurement matters, his unbecoming behavior, and his questionable integrity make him utterly unsuitable to hold the office or preside over the ongoing court case, and his continued tenure would be a travesty of justice.

Furthermore, Hon. Agbodza disclosed that the NDC is contemplating a motion to impeach the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, when Parliament reconvenes, as a next step in holding him accountable for his actions.

“Certainly. This is a very serious matter that must not be left to go. You can see all the things he said, he even said things that are very incriminating. He claimed that he was entrapped. In fact, he suggested the venue for the meeting so who wants to have this person as an Attorney-General?”

Meanwhile, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) dismissed the allegations, claiming that the audio tape has been tampered with and manipulated to falsely incriminate the Attorney General and that the recording is not a genuine representation of the conversation.

The party reaffirmed its support for the Attorney-General, stating that he will retain his position and continue to discharge his duties, despite mounting public pressure and calls for his resignation.

However, private legal practitioner Bobby Banson has challenged the governing party to produce the original audio recording if it claims the one in public circulation is doctored, emphasizing that this is the only way to verify its allegations and clear the air.
