Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah has assured the public that justice is being upheld in the recent arrests and remand of the Democracy Hub protesters, stressing that all legal processes are being followed according to the law.
In an interview, Deputy AG Tuah Yeboah explained that the prosecution of the protesters is proceeding within the bounds of the law, emphasizing that due process is being observed. He dismissed concerns about injustice, arguing that the protesters had their day in court, and legal standards are being meticulously adhered to.
“So far as we’re concerned, justice is being delivered,” Yeboah stated. “Simply because it’s being done in accordance with the law.”
Deputy AG Tuah Yeboah emphasized that the ongoing legal process reflects the country’s commitment to due process, where all individuals, regardless of their circumstances, are subject to the same legal scrutiny.
He pointed out that the consideration of bail and the charges laid against the protesters are consistent with how similar cases have been handled in the past.
“When it comes to the granting of bail, it matters not, and I repeat, it matters not the offences that you are facing.
“The actual fact is that the court will decide whether to grant you bail, looking at various circumstances. It can be a misdemeanor charge, but the court will decide whether you are entitled to bail or not.”

This statement was in response to some public reactions that expressed concerns over the denial of bail to the arrested protesters.
The court’s decision to deny bail to many of the protesters has drawn attention, with critics questioning the necessity of keeping them in custody.
However, Deputy AG Tuah Yeboah reiterated that the court’s actions align with legal provisions that allow for the refusal of bail if specific conditions, such as public safety concerns or the risk of flight, are met.
“People have been remanded for similar offences, and no issues were raised,” he noted, defending the judiciary’s consistency in handling such cases.
“So, if someone is of the opinion that they may have been charged with a misdemeanour and so automatically they are entitled to bail, then you may not be having the right law.”

He acknowledged that while the right to protest is enshrined in the country’s constitution, acts of violence and destruction cannot be tolerated, and those responsible must face the full weight of the law.
Ensuring Justice and the Rule of Law
In his interview, Deputy AG Tuah Yeboah sought to reassure the public that justice is being pursued in a fair and transparent manner. He reiterated that the protesters’ arrests and subsequent remand follow due legal process, adding that the court’s role is to ensure that both the state and the accused have their rights protected under the law.
“The court is there to ensure that the law is followed. If, for example, we were to bypass the court or the court remanded the protesters without giving them a hearing, that would be a violation of justice. But that is not the case here.”

Deputy AG Tuah Yeboah’s remarks highlighted the government’s stance on upholding law and order, while simultaneously respecting individual rights. His emphasis on legal consistency serves as a reminder that the justice system will treat the Democracy Hub protesters no differently than any other group charged with similar offences.
As the case progresses, the Deputy Attorney General assured the public that the government will continue to monitor the legal proceedings closely, ensuring that justice is served while maintaining peace and security in the country. He also encouraged all parties to respect the legal process and allow the courts to do their work without interference.
The remand of the protesters has become a symbol of the broader challenge of balancing civil liberties with public order, a debate that continues to evolve as the judicial process unfolds.
