The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Jomoro Constituency has called on the Vice President and the governing New Patriotic Party flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to urgently address the country’s economic challenges.
The Constituency Deputy Communications Officer, Joel Samuel Ndede, in a statement, bemoaned the severe economic issues plaguing the country under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, accusing the Vice President of failure to address such issues affecting all Ghanaians.
Mr Ndede, particularly expressed deep concerns over the soaring inflation rates, the relentless depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the dollar, and numerous unfulfilled promises as critical areas requiring immediate attention and action from the Vice President.
“Dr. Bawumia, as the head of the government’s economic management team, you bear significant responsibility for the current state of our economy. When you took office, you assured Ghanaians of a robust economic transformation.
“However, the reality has been starkly different. Inflation has skyrocketed, eroding the purchasing power of ordinary citizens”.
Joel Samuel Ndede, Deputy Communications Offiier NDC, Jomoro Constituency
The opposition party’s Constituency officer further posited that the depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the dollar has exacerbated the economic woes of all Ghanaians, making it increasingly difficult for businesses to thrive and for citizens to afford basic necessities.
Here, Mr Ndede also stated that the rising inflation rate, now at a worrying high, has led to a surge in the cost of living, leading to prices of food, transportation, and essential goods increasing dramatically, putting immense pressure on households across the country.
He asserted that despite the Vice President’s promises to stabilize the cedi, Ghanaians have witnessed a relentless decline in its value, adding that the depreciation of the cedi has not only made imports more expensive but has also created a ripple effect throughout the economy, leading to higher costs for businesses and consumers alike.

Moreover, the National Democratic Congress Deputy Communications Officer for the Jomoro Constituency, Joel Samuel Ndede raised concerns about corruption and questionable deals under the current administration.
He cited the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the SML deal as examples of inefficiency and corruption that have undermined public trust under the current administration, asserting that corruption not only diverts resources away from development projects but also erodes the confidence of Ghanaians in political leaders.
In a fervent call for accountability, Mr Ndede emphasized the need for the Vice President to take responsibility for addressing the economic challenges confronting the country.
He strongly posited that instead of the Vice President spending valuable time campaigning for the presidency, he should rather focus on addressing the immediate economic challenges facing the country.
Mr Ndede further asserted that the current position of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as Vice President and head of the economic management team provides him with the authority and capacity to make both significant and meaningful changes to the woes of the country.
“With just six months remaining in your tenure, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact. Implement policies that will curb inflation and stabilize the cedi.
“Take decisive action to combat corruption and ensure that public funds are used for the benefit of all Ghanaians. Focus on strengthening our economic foundations rather than seeking political gain”.
Joel Samuel Ndede, Deputy Communications Offiier NDC, Jomoro Constituency
He emphasized that Ghanaians are looking for real leadership, one that prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal ambitions, underscoring the need for the Vice President to take immediate measures to address the economic woes facing the country with urgency.
Mr Ndede also admonished the New Patriotic Party flagbearer to demonstrate his commitment to fulfilling the promises he made while campaigning in the previous elections and take the necessary steps to rescue Ghana’s economy from its current “downward spiral”.
In conclusion, Mr Ndede reminded Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that his legacy will be defined not by the campaigns he runs or the offices he seeks but by the tangible improvements he brings to the lives of Ghanaians.
He called on the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to demonstrate true leadership by tackling the economic and corruption issues head-on, adding that the future of Ghana depends on the actions the current administration takes.
