As Vice President and NPP flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia prepares to visit Jomoro, the people of Nzema are reflecting on his government’s failure to deliver on key promises.
The people of Jomoro, a critical constituency in the Western Region, have long suffered the consequences of these unmet expectations, particularly in the areas of road infrastructure, industrial development, and essential services.
In a recent press release, Mr. Joel Samuel Ndede, the Deputy Communications Officer for the Jomoro Constituency, highlighted the frustration of Nzema indigenes over the unfulfilled campaign promises made by the NPP government, urging the people to vote wisely in the upcoming December 2024 elections.
At the center of the disappointment is the much-publicized Samenye to Jaway Wharf road project that Dr. Bawumia inaugurated in 2020.
The project, according to the NPP, was designed to improve transportation and boost economic activity in the region.
However, years after the groundbreaking ceremony, the road remains unfinished, leaving the people of Jomoro to grapple with poor infrastructure. This, Mr. Ndede noted, has led to “crumbling businesses and loss of lives,” as the hazardous roads continue to put the community at risk. He emphasized; “The deplorable state of these roads is a clear indication of the NPP’s neglect of Nzema land and its people.”
He highlighted how the NPP, despite repeated promises, has consistently failed to deliver on infrastructure and development needs in the area.
Failed Flagship Programs: Jobs and Industry Left Unfulfilled
Another major disappointment cited in the press release is the failure of the NPP’s flagship programs in the Nzema area. The much-lauded One District, One Factory and One Constituency, One Million Dollars initiatives, which were positioned as game changers for local economies, have not materialized in Jomoro.
Projects like the cassava and fertilizer factories, which were expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth, are yet to be realized. He noted; “Our youth remain unemployed, and our communities underdeveloped.”
He criticized the NPP for its inability to deliver on its promises. The press release also pointed out that the region’s energy crisis continues to disrupt livelihoods and businesses, while other critical services, such as healthcare and education, have been largely ignored. Mr. Ndede Criticized NPP’s Failure to Deliver Essential Services.
Mr. Ndede further addressed the unresolved energy crisis, which the NPP had pledged to fix. Years later, Jomoro is still facing power outages that stifle economic growth.
He also highlighted the government’s failure to expand health and educational infrastructure, particularly through initiatives like Agenda 111, which were supposed to deliver new hospitals and improve the country’s healthcare system.
“The people of Jomoro deserve access to essential healthcare facilities and improved educational opportunities, Yet these promises remain nothing but empty words.”

He emphasized that the lack of access to basic services is a clear failure of the government, one that continues to hinder the development of Nzema land.
Nzema People Demand Accountability and Truth
Mr. Ndede used the press release as a platform to demand that Dr. Bawumia and the NPP leadership account for their unfulfilled promises.
He urged the people of Jomoro not to be swayed by rhetoric and empty pledges during the upcoming campaign visit. He stressed that the people of Nzema are intelligent and will not tolerate broken promises and political games.
“The people of Jomoro will not be swayed by rhetoric. We demand accountability for the uncompleted Samenye to Jaway Wharf roads, the failure to deliver industrial projects, and the neglect of basic services.”

He insisted that it is time for leaders to face the reality of their failure to meet the needs of the community.
The Call for Informed Voting and Leadership Change
With the December 2024 general elections fast approaching, Mr. Ndede called on the people of Nzema to make informed choices at the ballot box. He urged Nzema indigenes to reject empty promises and instead support leaders who will deliver tangible progress for their communities.
“We call on the people of Jomoro to vote for John Dramani Mahama and the NDC parliamentary candidate, Hon. Dorcas Afo-Toffey, who have consistently demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of Nzema indigenes.”

Mr. Ndede closed the press release with a call for integrity, accountability, and meaningful development in Nzema land.
“Nzema land deserves leaders who will not only promise but deliver on their commitments, We stand for truth, progress, and development, and we will not be deceived by political rhetoric. The future of Jomoro depends on making informed choices in December, and we trust our people will choose wisely.”
