The early stages of the process were relatively calm; however, tensions arose when allegations surfaced that one of the candidates had confined some delegates in a room adjacent to the voting center.

A potential disruption was averted through swift intervention by security personnel and regional executives, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

In his acceptance speech, the ruling New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidates elect for the Akuapem South Constituency, Eric Yeboah Apeadu expressed gratitude to the delegates for the honor and the confidence reposed in him to lead the party in the Akuapem South Constituency in the 2024 general elections.

He urged the supporters and members of ruling new Patriotic Party in the Akuapem South Constituency to redouble their efforts to ensure the party’s success, emphasizing the goal to “break the 8”, and an ambition to retain the constituency for the party.

Calls For Unity And Support

Furthermore, Tony Osei Adjei, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, who supervised the elections, addressed the media and outlined the party’s plans in the region to foster unity among its ranks and files in the Akuapem South Constituency.

He dismissed claims that the delay in conducting primaries in the Akuapem South Constituency would adversely affect the party’s fortunes in the December 7 general elections.

Meanwhile, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Akuapem South Constituency, Honorable O. B Amoah underscored the importance of unity within the party after the parliamentary priamries.

He urged the members and supporters of the party in the Akuapem South Constituency to avoid actions that could foster discord and emphasized that unity is paramount to realizing the party’s vision of retaining the constituency and breaking the eight-year cycle.

The parliamentary primaries was held at the Presby Women’s College of Education in Aburi, where 574 delegates convened to choose a representative for the ruling New Patriotic Party in the upcoming December 7 polls.

The governing New Patriotic Party officially announced the postponement of the Akuapem South primary on Thursday, January 25, 2024, following petitions and recommendations from both the constituency and regional executive committees.

The decision was influenced by the withdrawal of Osei Bonsu Amoah, the incumbent Member of Parliament from the contest.

However, Frank Aidoo, who had filed his nomination with the condition that he would be included in the race if OB Amoah stepped down, was cleared by the National Executives Committee of the NPP on February 19 to contest the parliamentary primary.

The victory of Eric Apeadu Yeboah in the parliamentary primary in the Akuapem South Constituency is expected to energize the party’s base, setting the stage for a spirited campaign in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.
