The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that four more Police officers have been arrested in relation to their alleged involvement in bullion van robberies in the country.
According to the Police Service, this came about as further investigations were being carried out to bring to book the culprits involved in such acts after some officers were initially arrested.
“Further investigations have led to the arrest of five other suspects, four of whom are Policemen. We are pursuing five other civilian suspects who have gone into hiding.”

The Police Service indicated as part of the development that two Policemen who were among the officers allegedly involved in bullion van robberies were killed during exchange of fire with the Police at Ashaiman in Accra.
The Service disclosed that the Police carried out an intelligence that led to a field raid at a hideout of the gang connected with the investigation into the bullion van robberies.
“During the raid at Borteyman near Ashaiman there was an exchange of gunshot and two policemen, Constable Reindolph Gyimah Ansah and Col Stephan Kwaku Nyame who had been arrested in connection with the bullion van robberies were shot and were pronounced dead on arrival at the Police hospital for treatment. Some other suspects believed to have sustained gunshot wounds managed to escape the scene.”

According to the Police Service, four Policemen involved have been interdicted and all the suspects will be arraigned before court today, Wednesday 9th March 2022.
The Police Service appealed to the public and health facilities within the Accra-Tema area to report to the Police if they find any person with gunshot wounds.
“We urge anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest Police station.”

The Service then assured the public of its determination to continue to take the fight to criminals to ensure the safety and security of all persons.
Two officers initially accused
Prior to this development, two Police Officers were accused of being complicit in four recent bullion van attacks recorded in the Greater Accra Region. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on Monday, March 7, 2022.
The Ghana Police Service stated that after several months of painstaking intelligence-led operations at the highest level, it made a major breakthrough in the investigations into multiple Van robberies recorded in Greater Accra.
“Preliminary investigations have been able to establish the involvement of two policemen and some other suspects.”

The bullion van attacks in question occurred at Kingsway, Baatsona, Jamestown and North Kaneshie (Industrial Area) between 2021 and 2022.
The Police however, assured the general public of its quest to make sure such attacks are curbed and the perpetrators are brought to book. The Service also assured the general public that it will continue to work hard to rid the country of criminal activities that disrupt the peace and stability of the nation.
