The Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central Hon. Inusah Fuseini, has outlined the ongoing campaign efforts of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama.
However, he contrasted the NDC’s strategy with the failures of the Akuffo-Addo Bawumia government underlining the reasons why he believes the people of Ghana will elect erstwhile John Dramani Mahama as president once again. Hon. Fuseini emphasized that the NDC’s campaign is highly organized and decentralized, allowing for more targeted efforts across all levels of the party. He mentioned that while John Mahama continues his national campaign, visiting key regions, other members of the party at regional, constituency, and branch levels are also actively campaigning.
“Our campaign is very focused. The expectations of the people of Ghana… we have, to a very large extent, decentralized our campaign. While the flag bearer is on the national campaign, we have charged those at the regional, constituency, and branch levels to also initiate their campaigns and not wait on the flag bearer.”

He stressed that the decentralized strategy ensures that no region is left untouched and that the party’s grassroots are fully involved in the election process.
“Elections will be won at the polling station and it is for the constituencies to coordinate the activities of the various branches within the constituencies, and for the regions to coordinate what the constituencies within a region are doing.”

He believes that Mahama’s previous track record, especially in terms of governance and economic management, would resonate with the people. He reiterated; “By the end of the day, come December, the people of Ghana will elect John Dramani Mahama because of what he’s done before.”
Critique of Bawumia’s Economic Management
In a sharp critique of the current government, Hon. Fuseini did not hold back in criticizing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, and head of the Economic Management Team.
“I have never seen any person promote a failed student. If a person has been given an opportunity, and he’s failed disastrously, it would be suicidal to promote that person.”

Hon. Fuseini recalled the economic decline under Bawumia, including high inflation and the infamous return to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), describing these events as unprecedented failures in Ghana’s economic history.
“Never in the history of this country has Ghana been declared bankrupt. We are now in a bankrupt situation… as chairman of the economic management team, [Bawumia] recorded inflation of 54.1 percent, just two years ago, and today is celebrating inflation of about 22%. Never have we recorded that in recent history.”

Failure of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia Administration
Hon. Fuseini argued that the entire Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has been a failure. He stressed that when voters elect a president, the vice president is also elected as part of the team, meaning that Bawumia shares responsibility for the failures of the government.
“Team Nana Akufo-Addo-Bawumia has failed. They failed disastrously, it will not be funny if you say that, never in the history of this country has a team given the mandate failed as completely as the Nana Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government.”

He elaborated on the worsening social conditions in Ghana under this administration, including the increasing prevalence of illegal mining (galamsey) He noted; “Our water bodies have been destroyed, our forest cover has been destroyed, that our lives are threatened.”
Moreover, Hon. Fuseini voiced strong concerns about the long-term environmental damage caused by illegal mining activities under the current administration.
“If you read the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research report on the presence of mercury in the bloodstreams of people living in Galamsey areas, you are left alarmed.”

He further questioned whether the government is capable of effectively addressing these issues.
Hon. Fuseini was also concerned about deforestation, noting that some of the trees being cut down are over 800 years old, and the long-term impact of these environmental changes on climate change and the natural environment.
NPP’s Struggles and Diminishing Confidence
In addition to critiquing the government’s performance, Hon. Fuseini took note of recent statements by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that appeared to show a decline in confidence. He referenced a claim by the NPP that the elections would be close, which he interpreted as an admission of their struggles. Hon. Fuseini dismissed the notion that the NPP would win more parliamentary seats. He emphasized; “The research that we know is saying that you will lose more parliamentary seats. You might not even get your 137 this time.” Hon. Fuseini expressed strong confidence in Mahama’s victory in December, citing his experience and the failures of the current administration as clear reasons why Ghanaians would choose change.
