Former NPP Presidential Aspirant Expresses Confidence In VEEP Flagbearership

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Ing. Kwabena Agyei Adjapong, a former presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party has expressed optimism in the competence and potential of the party’s newly elected flagbearer, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

According to the former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, the delegates of the party have presented an opportunity to the newly elected leader and presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections to chart a new path for the party.

He noted that despite the economic challenges that the country is facing under the ruling New Patriotic Party, he believes the Vice President can offer better solutions to address them.

Ing Kwabena Agyapong further urged the New Patriotic Party administration to begin to spend judiciously to reduce the cost of government expenditure to restore the country’s economic fortunes to normalcy.

“All across the world, governments have suffered because of the economic crunch and Ghana is not an exception. And we all recognize that it’s been a difficult seven years, more so in the last 2 to 3 years because of all the externalities that have happened. But I think he’s got a fantastic opportunity to chart a new course, and I am happy he gave a signal the last time because I believe that it cannot be business as usual.

“We cannot continue to do the same things and expect different results. The fact of the matter is, if you look at your economy, you’ve got to spend what you earn. You shouldn’t live beyond your means; that’s simple and straightforward. As an engineer, I always like to predict outcomes; you want to model the things that are likely to happen. I do believe that it’s easier to control your expenditure than to push your revenue”.

Again, the former presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party expressed confidence in the ability of the party to mobilize for victory in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, the party’s flagbearer and leader also possesses ample leadership skills and qualities to lead the party to win the 2024 general elections.

“It’s not so much residing in the past. We can learn lessons from what has happened in the past, but what is important is the kind of vision and leadership that we want to present to the Ghanaian people. I believe he can earn their respect, he’s a likeable personality, and I have never seen him angry before. He’s very humble and people like him. Of course, he’s going to carry the difficulties of the stark reality that we are in. But I do believe that this provides us with an opportunity. Our party, NPP is a very strong machinery and I do believe in my heart in all humility, that we have the numbers than the NDC’.

NPP Lauded For Organizing Credible Elections

Moreover, the former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party commended the party for conducting a relatively free, fair and credible election during its Saturday, November 4 2024, National Delegates Conference.

He noted that even though there were some reservations by the various aspirants during the party’s Super Delegates Congress on August 26 2023, the party demonstrated fairness and integrity during the National Delegates Conference.

Ing. Adjapong also indicated that the votes garnered by the Vice President in the party’s presidential elections were very significant, particularly as a first-time contestant.

“I don’t want to second-guess the decision of the majority. At the end of the day, he won close to 70% of the super delegates and did over 61% with the generality close to 200,000. So, we have to give him credit. That’s a first-timer getting those figures. If you go back into our political history, not Adu Boahen, not Kufuor, not Akufo-Addo got that at the first time of asking, so I think we have to give credit to Dr Bawumia. I would like to say that he’s used the vice presidential platform that was provided to him to good effect.”

Ing. Kwabena Agyei Adjapong

Additionally, Ing. Kwabena Adjapong urged the New Patriotic Party to demonstrate a high level of integrity, credibility and fairness in the party’s parliamentary primaries to avert any possible rancour and divisions within the rank and files of the party to help the party secure victory in the election 2024.
