The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Osman Ayariga has called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest and investigate the New Patriotic Party National Youth Organizer on his explosive statement he made about the Electoral Commission limited voter registration exercise.
His call for the Police to intervene and arrest the New Patriotic Party Youth Leader, Mr Salam Mustapha is due to the alleged comments made by the Youth Organizer inciting Ghanaians against the National Democratic Congress.
‘The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress has sighted a video and infographics purposefully released by the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Salam Mustapha to cause fear and panic towards the intended limited registration exercise to be undertaken by the Electoral Commission”.
Osman Ayariga
According to Mr Ayariga in the said video and other materials, the National Youth Organizer of the NPP incited well-meaning Ghanaians against the National Democratic Congress with palpable and calculated lies aimed at throwing dust into the eyes of the citizenry and to instil fear in them for them not to participate in the limited registration exercise.
He believes this was a calculated attempt by the ruling government to prevent eligible Ghanaians from participating in the registration exercise to disenfranchise them in order to minimize the impending massive defeat the party would suffer in the 2024 General Elections.
The NDC Youth Wing leader also denied any plans and activities that were stated by the ruling party’s National Youth Organizer and urged all Ghanaians and international allies to ignore such a ridiculous and infantile display of leadership weakness by the NPP National Youth Organizer, Mr Salam Mustapha.
“We condemn such irresponsible and violent behaviour by a leader who is supposed to promote peace and embrace tranquillity in all his operations and utterances on National discourse”.
Osman Ayariga
Mr. Ayariga, therefore cautioned Mr. Salam Mustapha to withdraw the lies and disturbing comments he made and apologize to the National Democratic Congress and all Ghanaians.
Mr. Ayariga also called on the Ghana Police Service to as a matter of urgency invite the New Patriotic Party Youth Leader if he fails to retract as his statement has the potential of causing fear and panic.
The Ghana police service ought to be guided by Section 208 of the CRIMINAL AND OFFENCES ACT 1960, ACT 29: which states that “(1) A person who publishes or reproduces a statement, rumor or report which is likely to cause fear and alarm to the public or to disturb the public peace knowing or having reason to believe that the statement, rumour or report is false commits a misdemeanor”.
NPP Bent On Causing Mayhem At Registration Centers
Mr Ayariga, the Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition party also alleged that the government and ruling New Patriotic Party have intentions of causing mayhem at the various registration centres with their notorious thugs as it has been the modus operandi of the incumbent to perpetrate violence during electoral processes and turn around to blame the NDC.
He therefore urged all Ghanaians that the National Democratic Congress as a party will continuously practice the tenets of a responsible opposition with recourse to the laws of the country, demonstrate empathy and commitment towards the needs and development of the citizenry and protect the public interest.
He also implored on all Ghanaians who have attained the age of eighteen years without a voter Identity Card to register and have the power to vote for change come election 2024.
Mr. Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the ruling on Sunday 10 September in a live social media interaction accused the opposition National Democratic Congress of its malicious plot to disrupt the Electoral Commission’s limited voter registration exercise.
Mr. Salam Mustapha also urged Ghanaians to support the NPP to maintain power, to ensure continuity in development, particularly emphasizing the party’s job creation agenda.
