Importance of the WAPIS Programme
The WAPIS programme, supported by the European Union, aims to enhance the capacity of security agencies in Ghana and the broader West African region to tackle transnational security issues. By improving information sharing and cooperation among West African countries, WAPIS plays a vital role in combating crime and ensuring regional stability.
The programme’s primary goal is to create a robust and integrated information-sharing system that allows police forces across West Africa to communicate and collaborate more effectively. This integration is essential for tracking criminal activities that cross borders, such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, and terrorism.
“The WAPIS programme has significantly improved our ability to share intelligence and coordinate operations with our neighbours. This has led to more effective responses to security threats that affect not just Ghana, but the entire region.”

Ambassador Razaaly echoed the Minister’s sentiments, acknowledging the significance of the WAPIS programme in fostering regional security cooperation.
“The European Union remains committed to working with the Ministry of the Interior and other security agencies in Ghana. Our collaboration is key to addressing transnational security challenges effectively.”

Ambassador Razaaly emphasized the importance of strong partnerships in addressing security challenges.
