Government’s Performance Tracker Fabricated- Adams

Kofi Adams, MP-Buem Constituency

The Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency in the Oti Region, Mr. Kofi Adams, has criticized the launch of the government’s Performance Tracker, stating that the tracker reveals that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has nothing to show after more than seven years in office.

He indicated the previous performance tracker launched by the NPP government falsely claimed some projects initiated by the NDC administration while he emphasized that the tracker yielded no concrete results but only exposed the ruling government’s misrepresentations.

“In my constituency, they launched bridges they claim they have constructed, roads they claim they have done when nothing has happened in my constituency, Buem. There’s supposed to be a bridge between the Akaa community and Akaa quarters that they have done according to their tracker”.

Mr. Kofi Adams

Furthermore, he noted that the ruling NPP government claimed it had done the road between the Guaman community and Atonkor which had not been done. He noted that despite the project not being done, the tracker indicated otherwise.

Mr. Adams further argued that similar situations occurred in many other areas, indicating that he is not surprised by the NPP government’s launch of another deceptive tracker.

He, however, asserted that the next NDC government would scrutinize it and expose any inaccuracies, just as it did with the first tracker.

Moreover, the Buem Constituency MP cited instances where some government officials struggled to identify projects initiated by the NPP government in their constituency.

He alleged that the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, when asked to mention five projects that the NPP had initiated in the Ashanti Region, could not mention any.

He also noted that the current Minister for Roads and Highways was asked on a program to mention projects however, the projects he mentioned were those initiated by the previous NDC administration.

The Performance Tracker

Meanwhile, the government launched the Performance Tracker today, 10th April 2024, at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra, which is aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of infrastructure projects across the country.

Accordingly, the tracker is expected to serve as a reliable mechanism for showcasing the progress and impact of infrastructure projects, thereby instilling trust and confidence among citizens concerning government projects.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister for Works and Housing Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the government listed some thirteen thousand projects tagged with their locations on the website. He insisted that the platform will promote transparency and accountability on projects across the country which have been categorized into 22 thematic areas.

He indicated that by accessing the tracker, the public will get information about the 11,974.96 kilometers of road constructed and rehabilitated from 2017 to 2023. That is a 158% increase over the 2009 and 2016 meter set.

“Job created between 2017 and June 2023, when this data was put together is a little over two million. So two million and eighty-seven thousand and it will tell you the source of the data coming from SSNIT. So SSNIT is the one providing this data. For every data set that is uploaded, the source will be made available.”

The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi further emphasized that the tracker will address misinformation, especially as the country heads to the December 7th general elections while he encouraged the public to visit the website and download the app to access information about projects.

Conclusively, he assured the public of the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability by providing a database where the facts about projects across the 261 districts are available for easy access.
