Reports Of The President Engaging In Galamsey Activities Untrue– Kyebi Traditional Council

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, has criticized the ruling-administration after being asked by the Office of the Special Prosecutor to provide some answers about his explosive report on galamsey.

He advised government officials to be mindful of their actions because their time in office will soon come to an end.

In a 37-page statement, the renowned heart surgeon accused government representatives of participating in galamsey or interfering with his job.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng claimed that the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s invitation to him made him feel victimized.

“These are monies belonging to the people, and so we should all account for our stewardship. If I have done anything wrong, I will go before the court and answer questions. This should apply to everyone.

“Those who are in charge now should also know that at some point they will be at the other end. If you are on one side of the table, at another point in time you may be at the other end. And you will also be receiving questions. So whatever you are doing, we should be clever that you are doing everything in the interest of Ghana.”

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng

A prominent NPP member, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Lord Commey, the Information Minister, Oppong Nkrumah, and a number of other people were listed in the report. However, the allegations have all been refuted by the individuals mentioned.

The famous heart surgeon has previously defended his findings by insisting that he had to be brutally honest with the President. Additionally, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng disputed that the report had been leaked to the media, as he had no intention on leaving it himself.

According to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, the report was handed over to personnel of the Criminal Investigations Department during investigations on some missing excavators.

His report, in the opinion of many stakeholders, including politicians, deserves investigation.

Frimpong Boateng Interrogated And Granted Bail

The Office of the Special Prosecutor is looking into Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng for alleged fraudulent acts related to his position as the head of the interministerial committee on unlawful mining.

The renowned physician was detained and given bail a month ago when he appeared before the Office of the Special Prosecutor on claims he made in a bombshell galamsey report to the president, according to sources close to the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

The former Chairman of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) was invited by the OSP in May, to answer questions regarding his report, and was later released on a GH¢2 million bail.

Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s accusations that some government appointees and individuals connected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were engaged in illicit mining made the document contentious.

However, he was informed of inquiries into possible expenditure irregularities when he appeared before the OSP.

According to reports, OSP officers followed him to his home to verify the address in accordance with the bail conditions (the Ghc 2 Million), after which he was freed

Following that, a lot of parties had urged the OSP to look into the claims made in the report. However, Kissi Agyebeng, the special prosecutor, informed the public and civil society in a statement on May 2 that the inquiry was already under way and extensive.

According to him, his organization started looking into allegations of corruption and crimes related to corruption in illicit mining in 2022. This includes the assertions made in the report by the former Chairman of the now-defunct IMCIM.
