Former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East Constituency, Hon Edward Ennin has said that he has not received any feedback from some people in authority after sending them his evidence on illegal mining activities in his constituency.
Mr Ennin stated that he has sent several pictures and videos of galamsey activities in his constituency to some people in government who are claiming to be fighting the menace but has not received any response.
“I am not satisfied and convinced with government’s approach to fighting the Menace. I have a lot of evidence of illegal activities here in Obuasi as well as Adanse and I have sent to a lot of big men in government but am yet to receive feedback or response.”

He said that most District Chief Executives and Sub-Chiefs in the various mining areas are involved in the galamsey activity. He further added that majority of these DCEs and Sub Chiefs are pretending to be helping in fighting the national issue but are rather those who are engaged in it secretly.
Speaking in an interview last Monday, the former Member of Parliament noted that traditional rulers should be given the opportunity to form their own taskforce to help in the fight.
“I am not trying to destroy my party, but I think it is time traditional rulers ask permission to form their own taskforce that will report to them directly”

I Am Shocked With Freddie Blay’s Decision
The former MP mentioned that he is shocked by the involvement of Hon Freddie Blay in the court case of Aiash Huag who has been arrested for engaging in illegal mining.
He further added that, the former chairman of the NPP who is also a lawyer and has a law firm has disappointed the government by allowing his firm to defend Aisha Huag and three others who were arrested by the police for mining offences.
“He has really shocked me; I don’t even know how he became a National Chairman. He still insists he is doing his professional job. What he is doing is not right”

Mr Ennin advised him to be careful as his decision to defend the Chinese Illegal Miners can create a lot of problem for his party.
He further asked the government to be more serious with the fight and also come up with different approaches in order to make the fight much easier. He also advised miners engaged in these illegal mining activities as they would not be spared if caught by the authorities.
