I’m not responsible for cancelling power agreement contract- Agyarko

Boakye Agyarko, former Energy Minister.

Former Energy Minister, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has debunked claims that his intention for making financial contributions to the New Patriotic Party’s regional conferences are to influence and elicit support of the delegates in the flagbearership race.

According to him, since 1992, he has not “withdrawn” his “hand from this party”. As such, he has no qualms with continuing the “tradition of giving” if the party needs it.

Following his commitment of GHC 10,000 to each of the 16 regions in the country since the commencement of the party’s regional delegates conferences, Mr Agyarko explained that GHC10, 000 won’t suffice “the amount of money required in our politics”.

The aspiring Presidential hopeful emphasized that what people should focus on is whether a person “is contributing to the party”. In that regard, he stressed that he has contributed to the party from “its very beginning”.

“I am not doing this for any race. In 1992, when I was donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to this party, did anybody ask me what I was trying to influence? We are building the party. I will not monetize it. Win or lose I will continue to support this party as I have done from the beginning”.

On the party front, similar donations have been made by Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who committed ¢20,000 to each region and ¢2,000 to the 275 constituencies. Mr Alan Kyeremanteng has also made a donation of ¢10,000 to each of the 16 regions.

Commenting on this, Mr Agyarko revealed that his focus is to serve the party and not concerned with who monetizes the process or not.

“It has been my practice for thirty years to be doing this. If somebody wants to monetize the race that’s their choice. I have served this party loyally for thirty years and all I ask for is a just reward, if they so choose I will say God bless them, if they say no, that’s the choice they have to make”.

Dr Bawumia donates GHC 20, 000 to Greater Accra delegate conference

During the NPP’s Greater Accra Regional Delegates Conference held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, presented an amount of GH¢20,000 to the Regional Secretariat of the party for its operations.

Making the donation in the stead of the Vice President, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Fred Oware, revealed that Dr. Bawumia’s contribution is to support the growth of the party in the Greater Accra Region.

He explained that the aim is also to sustain the socio-economic gains that the Akufo-Addo administration has achieved.

Government, he noted, is committed to building a prosperous country with a resilient economy, free and fair trade, efficient public sector to support the growth of the private sector to create jobs.

“Without the party, there cannot be any government and for the party to break the eight, we need to be united and disciplined. On his part, he cannot sit down and see party activities going on without his involvement. So, he has been going around all the constituencies and regions supporting the activities of the party. So today, we come again to bring to the region, GH¢20,000 to support the conference and GH¢2,000 to each constituency.”

Mr Fred Oware
