Former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s filed injunction application against the upcoming presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ‘is frivolous, vexatious and an attempt to disturb the organization of the internal elections,’ averred Abraham Amaliba, the Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC.
“If the parties are minded and Dr Duffuor is ready, we can have a discussion around the issue that he has raised, which are no issues at all and then if that is possible, we can reach an amicable settlement. But for me, this writ is frivolous, vexatious and an attempt to thwart the efforts of the party in the organization of the primaries, that is how I see it.”

The Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, confirmed that the party has been served with the injunction application. He said the court has fixed 15th May for the hearing, which is two days after the internal elections would have taken place. However, he said, the party is working to ensure that the hearing takes place before the Saturday, May 13 elections.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that as of 5: 30 yesterday we were served with the writ, including the application for an injunction. The application for an injunction has been fixed for hearing on the 15th of May, which means that it is beyond the 13th, which is the day for our primaries. However, as lawyers, we are trying to use the legal processes available to us to ensure that this application is heard before the 15th.”

The flagbearer aspirant of the NDC, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, filed the injunction application at the High Court on Tuesday, May 9, seeking to stop the primaries, over concerns about the electoral album.
Portions of the application read; “The plaintiff avers that the partial delivery of the Photo Album to his representatives on 4th May 2023 was in itself out of time considering the magnitude of the verification exercise required of them before the internal elections of 13th May 2023.”
Dr. Duffuor’s campaign team earlier demanded postponement of the May 13 Presidential Primaries, over what it describes as a flawed register.
A petition sent to the Electoral Commission (EC) and Elections Committee of the NDC on Monday, May 8, under the signature of Kofi Kukubor, the Head of Research and Strategy with the campaign team of Dr. Duffuor, stated that extensive review of the voters’ register or photo album for 220 constituencies, have identified several discrepancies that render the register incomplete or inaccurate.
The campaign team claimed that going into the election with such a register, undermines the credibility and integrity of the election and capable of causing irreparable damages to Dr.Kwabena Duffuor.
Head Of Duffuor’s Security Will Not Allow Mahama To Have His Way In Upcoming Primaries
James Agbey, Head of the Security Detail of team Duffuor, said they would not allow former President John Dramani Mahama to have his way in the presidential primaries of the party, slated for May 13.
The head of security detail of team Duffuor claimed that this election is totally different from the one held in 2018 “where Prof Joshua Alabi and Goosie Tanoh allowed Mahama to have his way.”
In a press statement, he averred; “the whole charade regarding the non-availability of a complete photo album for the elections is completely against the party’s rules of engagement.”
“In my eyes this is just the first shot in a series of campaign to destabilise the NDC by the Mahama faction, for their selfish and parochial agenda. We can’t continue to suffer characters like the former President, who’s hoping to stay relevant by being a perpetual flagbearer. I just wish the people who know better would sit up. But perhaps that cannot happen, until we send out a strong signal to them that we are ever ready to beat them to their own game.
“As one of those who served the party in the Greater Accra Region as Director of Security operations in 2020, and currently in charge of Dr Duffuor’s Security detail, this development made me very upset. It is upsetting to see the NDC swimming in the gutters to please one man at the expense of our collective good.”
James Agbey
He stated that the Duffuor team is ready for John Dramani Mahama and his ‘diabolics’ and that it is ready to bring an end to what he referred to as Mahama’s ‘opportunistic appropriation’.
“This obviously is more likely strong evidence that Mahama and his supporters continue to muddy the waters or to put it more plainly, deflect attention from their failures and misdemeanours. We are on a rescue mission to rescue the party from the claws of Mahama.
“At this juncture, let me sound a note of caution to all concerned, and warn that we’re ready to use legitimate force and every means under the sun, to get Mahama out of the way and restore dignity and respect to the NDC. Allowing them to continue with this charade and the choreographed shenanigan, is utterly abhorrent.”
