Former President and flagbearer hopeful for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, launched his campaign today in Ho, at the Cedi Auditorium, in the University of Health and Allied Sciences; Volta Region.
After being introduced by Joyce Bawa, the NDC flagbearer hopeful, then mounted the stage and showed gratitude to those present, for their love and support, regardless of the current economic state of the country.
He spoke about the problems that the current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, had caused in the country and upon the lives of Ghanaians.
“There are many who say that my words are wrong, that posterity will be the judge. I’m not the kind of leader who can smile at my country’s failings, a wise man learns from the mistakes of others. I’m offering myself for public service at this time, I also know that such a mountainous task needs a sturdy hand to build the Ghana we need.
“Ghana at this time, does not need a try me too leader. Our country at this time, needs a leader to get things done, with no thrills and no slogans of whatsoever. Ghana’s next leader, should make sound judgements, a leader who accepts blame and not shift it unto others. A leader who will build a prosperous Ghana for all Ghanaians and not just a few family and friends.”

He stated emphatically, that the current NDC will not run a government of slogans, but would rather run a government, that is full of actions. He explained further, that a leader’s words should be his or her bond and as such, the next leader should have the humility of mind, to take up responsibilities unlike the current (NPP); who do not accept responsibilities of any kind.
John Dramani Mahama, iterated that a leader should not be one, who views the nation as his birthright or family heirloom. He courageously, said that believes he possesses such qualities and was uniquely placed there in the moment, to take control of the country, because he was ready to build the Ghana that everyone wants.
Its Time To Reset Ghana
“Working with the private sector and the civil society; who want to transform the lives of people…it can and will be done. The first order of business will be to reset the country, to its default settings, a nation that has respect for human rights and its freedoms. At the top of priorities of the win in 2025, will be to restore stability and inclusive growth and stability.
“We will do this, to bring the various indicators under stability. We shall restore faith in our almost collapsed financial systems. We will invest growth and develop jobs for the teeming youth, who continue to lose hope in the country, day by day. We shall not implement new projects, we shall recognize uncompleted ones and complete them first.”

John Dramani Mahama, stated that when voted into power, he would reduce the size of government; because 60 ministers and deputies can rule the country. He also made mention, of the fact that during his term, the payment of ex-gratia under article 71, will be scrapped and this would start in 2025.
On the educational placement system, John Dramani Mahama, said that there will be a few changes, where students will first receive their results and the after, choose schools that suit their results. This he said, would prevent corruption in the school placement system.
“This accountability can only be achieved by a new party coming into power, in 2025. We will create a conducive environment for the media to do its work without fear or fear of assassination. My brothers and sister, there is no use to fight for political power, to come and repeat the same mistakes the NPP has made.
“To accomplish this, we must not see different religions or party, we must see Ghanaians; as one people united with one destiny. You and I; hand in hand and working together, it would take Grace. We have what we have not had before, we have hindsight.”

John Mahama, assured the crowd, that he would engage them on-on-one; to listen to the ideas they had to make Ghana great again, as they worked to respond to their needs. He said that they would build a political party, that every Ghanaian would be proud to be associated with. He also stated, that in the history of the 4th Republic, it was the NDC that provided better conditions of living, across the length and breadth of the nation.
He touted, that it was even the NDC, that proposed the idea of every Region having a public University; which led to the establishment of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and the creation of Airports in every region, as well.
“Ronald Reagan, once said the greatest leader, is not one who does great things; but the one who makes his people do great things. I subscribe to this, because the next NDC will not be about me; the next NDC, will be about you. My brothers and sisters, I am John Dramani Mahama, our proven servant and I ask you to bless me on May 13th and subsequently in December, 2024.
“And I promise you, that I will return your generosity. Ghana needs a leader and not a president. Ghana needs a leader who will not be given an excursion through the Flagstaff House, because he knows there already. And as I conclude, I wish to thank my wife Laudina, who has been my dependable partner on my whole political journey and I wish to thank all of you. May God bless the NDC and God bless us all.”
