Kwesi Pratt Echoes Boakye Agyarko’s ‘Thank You Tour’ Concerns

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a respected journalist and long-time observer of Ghana’s political landscape, has weighed in on a solemn warning issued by Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership, urging an urgent course correction in the ongoing “Thank You Tour.”

He highlighted Agyarko’s consistent but often ignored efforts to promote reason within the NPP, especially now when the former flag bearer hopeful of the NPP believes the party’s current course of action is causing more harm than good to it’s image and unity.

“Boakye Agyarko certainly means well as he has always done. The problem is that nobody appears to listen to him”

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Political Expert

Pratt described Agyarko as “worried,” observing that his statement reflects growing concern among rank-and-file party members who fear that the NPP is losing its bearings at a time when strategic repositioning is essential. The country’s political dynamics have shifted after the party’s massive loss in the 2024 elections.

The NPP now finds itself navigating unfamiliar territory from the opposition benches. Agyarko’s caution signals the urgency of adjusting to this reality with humility and a renewed focus on values that once defined the party.

Agyarko’s Concerns

Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko published his call in a statement which veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr has described as both “sincere and deeply concerning.”

“The ongoing ‘Thank You Tour,’ envisioned as a beacon of hope and a rallying point to reignite the spirit of our faithful and supporters, is unfortunately veering off course”

Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, Former NPP Flag Bearer Hopeful

The tour, which was meant to express gratitude to NPP supporters following their 2024 electoral defeat and to renew grassroots connections, is according to Agyarko, instead unraveling into a public display of internal division and blame games.

“What was intended to restore our party’s shine and reconnect us with the grassroots is instead unraveling into bouts of discord, blame-shifting, and internal strife”

Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, Former NPP Flag Bearer Hopeful

He believes this shift from what was originally a unifying initiative but is steadily becoming a liability, fuelling disunity, threatens to erode the very foundations of the party and diminish its standing with Ghanaians.

In his view, this internal friction, now increasingly visible to the public, is not only jeopardising the NPP’s trust rebuilding efforts, but also its ability to function as a credible opposition and a future contender for power.

Immediate Recalibration

With the party’s public image deteriorating in the aftermath of its loss to the NDC in 2024, Agyarko believes now is the time for clear-headed leadership and a strategic reassessment of priorities.

“In light of these unfortunate developments, I am earnestly calling on the leadership of our party to act swiftly and decisively.

“We must pull back from what increasingly looks like an imminent collision course and chart a path that upholds the unity, dignity, and forward-looking spirit of our tradition”

Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, Former NPP Flag Bearer Hopeful

He urged NPP leadership to “apply the brakes” and reorient the tour toward togetherness and reconciliation rather than continuing on what he described as chaos waiting to be unleashed.

For Agyarko, the issue is not the tour itself but the manner in which it is being carried out, without focus, harmony, or meaningful engagement with the party’s grassroots base. His call is for intentional and reconciliatory leadership to prevent deeper fractures from taking hold.

“We need to adopt a carefully recalibrated approach” he put forth.

Internal Reflection

Agyarko’s statement is not merely a critique, it is a plea for introspection and action to restore political relevance. With its once-unshakable base now fractured, and internal trust waning, the NPP faces a pivotal choice: continue on a path of self-destruction or begin the long road toward healing.

“Let us seize this moment to renew our collective resolve and ensure that the mission of the Thank You Tour is accomplished in a manner worthy of our party’s proud legacy”

Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, Former NPP Flag Bearer Hopeful

Whether the NPP leadership will heed this call remains to be seen. But as Boakye Agyarko warns, time is of the essence if the party hopes to remain relevant in Ghana’s unfolding political era.
