Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has alleged that Former President John Dramani Mahama did not attend Ghana’s 66th Independence Day Celebration held in the Volta Region, because of pain and anger he harbors within.

Chairman Wontumi, argued that for the sake of the people in the Region, John Dramani Mahama should have attended the celebration, considering the fact that where the event was held is the stronghold of his party; National Democratic Congress (NDC), which could have been an opportunity for him.

This comment by the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, comes as a response to the Former President’s decision not to attend Ghana’s 66th independence anniversary, held in the Volta Region. The Former President, giving his reasons for the decision, explained that the Independence Day celebration is a national event in the country but has unfortunately been turned into a political jamboree, by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), hence, his decision not to associate himself with the political event.

The Former President, added that he will always attend Independence Day, if it is characterized by the sense of nationalism the event has always been celebrated with. However, Chairman Wontumi, insisted that John Dramani Mahama abstained himself from the gathering because he was bitter.

“Volta Region being your stronghold, you should have rather gone to praise Akufo-Addo for taking the celebration there. But with pain and anger, he said he is an Nkrumahist, therefore he won’t attend. So John Mahama wants to tell us that he is a CPP and no more an NDC?”

Ghana Is Now Better Than The UK

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, revealed Ghana is now in a better economic condition, than the United Kingdom (UK) and Ghanaians should be proud of it.

He claimed that, he had to bring his children back home from the United Kingdom (UK), because there is unbearable hardship there and Ghana is now in a better economic state.

“There is too much hardship in the UK. As I speak to you, I have brought them all to live in Ghana because Ghana now, is better than the UK”.

He added that all his children are UK citizens, but he had to take that tough decision. According to him, there is no place under the sun, where there is no hardship, especially after the outbreak of the pandemic; COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War, that saw a low supply of the world’s grain products from the West.

Chairman Wontumi, made this comment while advising Ghanaians not to look down on the peace and good living they have under the current President; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. “What we are pleading with Ghanaians is that there is hardship everywhere in the world,” Chairman Wontumi emphasized.

Chairman Wontumi then advised Ghanaians to be very careful of the way they speak and the way they go about their daily lives, because if they are not careful, they might lose the peace and all the other good things, they receive and benefit as Ghanaians, in such a great country.
