Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 Presidential Candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering a lean, efficient, and accountable government within his first 120 days in office should he win the upcoming general election.
Highlighting his address to the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs during his recent tour, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer outlined key elements of his “First 120 Days Social Contract,” a strategic blueprint aimed at tackling the numerous challenges confronting the country across all sectors.
“As part of my three-day tour of the Upper West Region, I met and had a fulfilling interaction with traditional leaders from the region on Monday morning.
“The questions and issues of concern to the members of the Regional House of Chiefs cut across all sectors of the economy, an opportunity for me to reiterate to the people through the chiefs and queen mothers my first 120 days of Social Contract with the good people of Ghana.”

Central to former President Mahama’s message was his promise to form the “leanest and most efficient government” under the Fourth Republic when elected as President in the upcoming general elections.
He assured that within 14 days of assuming office, his administration would present the complete list of cabinet ministers to Parliament for approval, a move aimed at jump-starting effective governance.
He pointed out that Ghana’s public sector has faced criticism for being bloated and inefficient, contributing to the country’s fiscal challenges.
Former President John Dramani Mahama noted that his lean government pledge is designed to counteract this by reducing the size of ministerial appointments and eliminating redundancies across government institutions.
Accountability and Integrity
The 2024 Presidential Candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress also underscored his commitment to fostering accountability in governance, vowing to implement a robust code of conduct for all government officials that would serve in the next NDC administration.
The framework, according to him would serve as a foundation for holding officials to the highest standards of integrity, ensuring transparency in all levels of government.
“We will establish a strict code of conduct and standards for all public officials, with the sole aim of ensuring integrity and transparency in the execution of their duties,” former President Mahama wrote.

National Economic Dialogue
As part of his overarching strategy to steer Ghana back to economic stability, former President John Dramani Mahama announced plans for a National Economic Dialogue within his first 120 days in office.
This platform, he noted would bring together key stakeholders to assess the true state of the economy and develop a homegrown fiscal consolidation program.
“The National Economic Dialogue will be a crucial moment for our nation. It will be an open and transparent platform where we will all assess the state of our economy and develop a fiscal consolidation plan that is realistic and homegrown.”

The former President highlighted the importance of national unity and collective effort in resolving the country’s economic woes, a message that has become a focal point of his 2024 campaign.
The National Democratic Congress flagbearer and leader’s interaction with the Upper West traditional leaders was not just an outline of immediate governance reforms but part of a broader narrative he has been presenting throughout his campaign—the vision of “Building Ghana we want together.”
He emphasized that his administration if given the mandate, would prioritize the needs of the people, streamline governance, and restore trust in public institutions.
