Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, has reiterated his commitment to implement his proposed 24-hour economy policy to achieve   self-sufficiency and increase exports for the country when elected into power.

The strategic initiative according to the National Democratic Congress flagbearer when implemented would focus on enabling businesses to operate in three shifts, fostering collaboration between the government and the private sector, and creating new employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

“My objective is to create a 24-hour economy in Ghana by enabling businesses to operate in three shifts. This will help Ghana become self-sufficient and focus on export-oriented growth”.

According to Mr Mahama, to achieve his goal of the 24 hour economy, his administration when assumes power would champion a collaborative relationship between the government and the private sector with the objective to create an environment conducive to businesses operating round the clock, unlocking economic potential and driving growth.

The former President further indicated that his administration envisions to enact new laws to support businesses operating 24 hours throughout the week, including modifications to labor laws and the introduction of tax incentives.

He noted that the enactment of new legislative on labor related issues aim to facilitate the seamless operation of businesses in multiple shifts.

Furthermore, former President John Dramani Mahama reiterated his commitment to introduce favorable tax policies, stimulus packages, and financial assistance to specific industries such as agro-processing and manufacturing companies to boost their contribution to the 24-hour economy.

The National Democratic Congress flagbearer also recounted his administration’s commitment to prioritize the purchase of local products and services to bolster domestic industries, promote economic self-sufficiency, and reduce reliance on imports.

Key Components of the 24-Hour Economy

Moreover, former President John Dramani Mahama recognizing the need for a safe and clean working environment indicated that the 24 hour economy policy places a strong emphasis on bolstering security measures, sanitation, and environmental protection.

He noted that the above mentioned components of the 24 hour economy policy are deemed critical to the successful implementation of the policy.

According to Mr Mahama, in a bid to reduce delays and congestion at the ports, his administration when assumes power would ensure the operationalization of financial services round the clock  to streamline port operations and facilitate smoother trade, contributing to overall economic efficiency in the country.

In addition, former President John Dramani Mahama emphasized that the overall goals of the 24-hour economy policy is to generate new employment opportunities, particularly for the youth and also enhance living standards for the citizens of Ghana.

He further stressed that the initiative when fully implemented would increase productivity across various sectors of the economy as businesses would embrace continuous operations while citizens would benefit from increased convenience in accessing goods and services at any hour.

Meanwhile, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of spreading  disinformation and fake news about the 24-Hour Economy policy proposed by former President John Dramani Mahama.

The National Communications Officer of the opposition party in a statement indicated that the ruling New Patriotic Party administration has become very ‘jittery’ and overwhelmed over how the laudable policy proposal, which has been described by the Trade Union Congress  as a game-changer, continues to gain traction and acceptability among the Ghanaian people.

According to Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, no amount of disinformation spread by the New Patriotic Party administration can change the perception and wide acceptability of Ghanaians about the 24 hour economy policy.

“Clearly, the NPP is bereft of ideas and any sound policy proposition on job creation going into the crucial 2024 election. All the farcical jokes by their discredited Flag-bearer against the Mahama 24-hour economy strategy, have been roundly rejected by Ghanaians.

‘This is why they have resorted to a campaign of calumny and deliberate disinformation, ostensibly to discredit the well thought-through 24-Hour Economy Strategy of the nation-builder H.E John Dramani Mahama”.

Sammy Gyamfi Esq.

Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi further admonished the general public to be alert to the fake news that has been launched by the New Patriotic Party against the National democratic Congress 24-hour economy policy, in order not to become victims of its ‘desperate disinformation” campaign against the policy.
