James Kwabena Bomfeh, Executive Director of Rights of Youth & Disability International, advises former President John Dramani Mahama to quit underestimating Ghanaians’ intelligence.
He wants the previous leader to know that Ghanaians are highly aware of him and are familiar with his record.
“He should respect the intelligence of Ghanaians. He once said we have a short memory but not all of us have that deficiency, and I tell you many Ghanaians don’t have that deficiency…We have a recall memory.”
James Kwabena Bomfe
He was replying to John Mahama’s acceptance speech, after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential primary contest that had finished over the weekend.
After the NDC primaries on Saturday, the former President, John Dramani Mahama, won by a landslide margin with 297,603 votes, or 98.9% of the total valid votes submitted and now serves as the party’s flagbearer.
In his acceptance speech as the flagbearer of the NDC, Mahama gave the people of that country assurances that he would revive the country’s economy and restore the bank licenses that had been unfairly revoked.
However, James Kwabena Bomfeh, often known as “Kabila,” is skeptical that former President John Dramani Mahama can bring about any significant change.
Additionally, he urged Mahama to abide by a clause in the Constitutional Review Committee’s guidelines that cast doubt on the suitability of past Presidents for re-election.
“I would like to advice the former President that campaigns of grievances, don’t win elections. President Mahama, in your tenure, four and half years, what one specific thing can we say you stand for?
James Kwabena Bomfe
“President Mahama should be concerned about what the Constitutional Review Commission said about his own, in paragraph 104, the eligibility to contest for these elections in 2024 as a former President who seeks to return to power. He should be concerned about that as a constitutional matter.”
Kofi Akpaloo Claims Mahama Lacks Vision
“Former President John Dramani Mahama lacks the vision and qualifications to govern Ghana once more”, according to Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the founder and head of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
He stressed the lack of innovation in the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate and urged voters not to give him another chance in the 2024 general elections.
Kofi Akpaloo’s remark follow the former president’s resounding victory in the NDC’s weekend presidential primary. In order to defeat Kojo Bonsu, a former mayor of Kumasi, John Dramani Mahama received 98.9% of the valid votes cast by almost 335,000 delegates.
The result demonstrates that Mahama still has a significant following inside the NDC, despite stepping down as President in 2017, after more than four years in office.
In an interview following Mahama’s victory, Kofi Akpaloo insisted that while Mahama may continue to enjoy strong support within the NDC, he could not be re-elected.
He argued that John Dramani Mahama lacks the vision and skills necessary to transform Ghana’s economic downturns because the country currently needs a visionary leader who can accomplish such a feat.
“Mahama has the experience because he is a former president but he does not have a vision to save Ghana from the economic crisis. Mahama is an old man now and like the Bible said in Joel 2:28 that your old men would have dreams; so Mahama is dreaming and can never be President again in Ghana.”
Kofi Akpaloo
Additionally, Kofi Akpaloo predicted that the LPG will triumph in the general elections of 2024, take power, and reform Ghana with better policies. He urged the public to support him for the position of President of Ghana because the two major political parties (NPP and NDC) in the nation, had disappointed Ghanaians in the past.
