Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2024 elections, is set to embark on a high-stakes campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, a key political battleground.
The tour, scheduled from Saturday, November 30, to Thursday, December 5, 2024, is expected to strengthen his engagement with residents, presenting his vision for addressing Ghana’s challenges and fostering sustainable development.

“As part of his itinerary, H.E. John Dramani Mahama will interact with chiefs, opinion leaders, professional groups, and the hardworking people of the Ashanti Region.

According to the statement, these meetings aim to provide a platform for Ashanti Region residents to articulate their concerns and aspirations while receiving detailed insights into former President Mahama’s policies.
The tour will feature both intimate dialogues and large-scale gatherings to ensure inclusivity. Stakeholders are expected to raise pressing regional issues such as infrastructure deficits, youth unemployment, economic hardships, and challenges in healthcare and education.
Walk for Victory to Rally Momentum
A major highlight of the NDC flagbearer’s campaign tour of the Ashanti region per the statement is a “Walk for Victory”, slated for Sunday, December 1, 2024. Dr Frank Amoakohene, the NDC’s Regional Secretary, noted that the event promises to be a show of strength and unity as the former President leads supporters through the bustling streets of Kumasi.

The statement further noted that the walk will culminate at Hero’s Park, where a grand rally will be held, with the rally expected to serve as a platform to articulate the NDC’s commitment to the Ashanti Region and address lingering concerns about the region’s development under successive administrations.

The NDC Ashanti Regional Secretariat called on the media, party loyalists, and residents to warmly welcome former President Mahama and actively participate in the events.
According to Dr Frank Amoakohene, the NDC Ashanti Regional Secretary and Campaign Coordinator, the campaign tour represents “a significant moment to rally together as we work towards victory in the upcoming elections.”
As the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Ashanti Region holds immense strategic value in Ghana’s political landscape.
Despite historically low support in the region, the NDC has intensified efforts to make inroads by addressing key concerns and demonstrating tangible commitments.
In recent times, leading figures including the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, former First Lady, Lordina Mahama, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, leader of NDC’s Caucus in Parliament and a host of others have embarked on separate campaigns in the region
The National Democratic Congress flagbearer’s campaign tour is part of the party’s critical move to challenge the NPP’s dominance in the region while consolidating the NDC’s nationwide support base ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections.
