The Ashanti Regional Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gloria Huze, has picked the nomination forms on behalf of former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, to contest in the upcoming flagbearership elections of the party.
Supporters and sympathizers of the former finance minister thronged the national headquarters of the party today, February 23, 2023, to pick forms for him.
The Ashanti Regional Women’s Organizer, Gloria Huze, expressed excitement over the reception given by party officials led by Chairman of the Internal Elections Committee, Kakra Essamuah. She assured the executives that Dr Duffour will follow all the regulations to submit the forms.
She indicated that the Ashanti Women’s Wing decided to buy the forms for Dr Duffour because of the suffering women within the party are going through, especially at the grassroots level.
Madam Huze stated that the 2024 presidential elections will, therefore, require a courageous candidate like Dr Duffour to lead the NDC to save the masses, particularly women, from the hands of the current administration.
The gesture comes just a day after the NDC opened nominations for its internal elections. Already, former President, John Dramani Mahama, former Kumasi mayor, Kojo Bonsu and one Ernest Kwaku Kobeah have picked forms to contest for the May 13 polls. They picked the forms on the first day of the opening of nominations.
GMA general secretary vies for Lambussie-Karni Constituency parliamentary slot
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Titus Beyuo, has resigned from his role to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Lambussie-Karni Constituency in the Upper West Region.
He revealed that the decision was taken after a prolonged period of introspection and extensive consultations with family, friends, traditional leaders in the Lambussie traditional Council and some key stakeholders.
“It is my firm belief that the grace of God will abound to me as I make this switch from a professional and academic career into frontline politics. I need your prayers and continuous support.”
Titus Beyuo
Dr Beyuo also vowed to wrestle power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and “contribute to the developmental agenda of the next NDC government for the people of Ghana and Lambussie”. He however apologized to all those who may be disappointed with his decision to exit the GMA, especially at this time.
“I am fully persuaded that the social democratic governance of the NDC holds the key to the alleviation of extreme poverty, provision of healthcare to all, restoration of the economy and above all ensuring fairness and equity in the distribution of the national cake.”
Dr Titus Beyuo
As the NDC prepares for May 13, 2023, to elect candidates to represent the party at the 2024 general elections, a philanthropist and a staunch supporter of the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has paid for the nomination form of the MP in her bid to seek for re-election in 2024.
Mr. Paul Nyamekeh, made a payment of GH¢5,000 to purchase the nomination form for the Jomoro legislator. He indicated that he purchased the forms due to the great things and infrastructural development Madam Affo-Toffey has undertaken in the constituency in the past two years, despite her court challenge.
Meanwhile, some admirers and friends of the MP, some of whom are farmers, traders, teachers, executives and businessmen have pledged to pay for the filing fee of GH¢20,000 for her.
They believe she is the only person who can lead Jomoro Constituency to its desired destination.
Currently, nominations are expected to close on Friday, February 24, 2023.
