NDC Defends Mahama’s  24-Hour Economy Policy

Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe

The Director of Legal Affairs of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has justified the need for all Ghanaians to embrace the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Policy as he strongly believed the policy has what it takes to change the economic fortunes of the country.

He dismissed arguments which undermined the practicality and feasibility of the policy by some members of the public including leading members of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

According to Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe the 24-Hour Economy Policy by the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, Mr John Dramani Mahama would help in addressing the high increasing rate of unemployment in the country.

“JDMahama has made a campaign promised that with the benefit of the support of Ghanaians and the support of the Almighty God with power, what he is going to do is the introduction of the 24-hour economy. Nothing is more telling and fulfilling than to have a General Secretary of a Trade Union Congress in the person of Dr Yaw Baah overwhelmingly endorsing such a laudable policy.

“And in the words of Dr Yaw Baah, the General Secretary of TUC, the 24-hour economy is going to be a game changer and he goes ahead and said that the 24-hour economy would provide the much-needed jobs for the people. That statement for me is very profound to me.  Now if you have the biggest Trade Union in this country endorsed a policy like this, then who is Miracles Aboagye in the scheme of affairs? This is a man who works from 9 am and closes at 5 pm to go home and sleep and get paid at the end of the month”.

Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe

Lawyer Edudz Tamakloe further lamented over the excruciating hardships that many young people in the country are going through due to the lack of available jobs in the country.

According to him the high rate of unemployment in the country is a major threat to the country’s national security in recent times and hence called for the need for the government to adopt urgent measures to address the phenomenon.

The Multiplier Effects Of The 24 Hour Economy Policy

Moreover, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe explained that the National Democratic Congress flagbearer 24-Hour Economy Initiative when implemented would create a three-shift system where people could work both day and night throughout the weeks.

He emphasized that the policy when implemented would be similar to what major advanced and developed countries especially those in Europe and America practice.

According to him, there is a need for the country to create a system where citizens would have access to government services both during the day and the night across the country.

“I travelled outside only to be called that my daughter was not feeling well; look that night I had to be on the phone with someone after countless attempts to get access to a pharmacy to buy medicine and it was hell for me. The question is, how many pharmacies in this country remain open after 8 pm? The reality of the economy is such that after 7 pm most filling stations close due to security issues”.

Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe

Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe thus expressed confidence in the National Democratic Congress flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Policy to help create an economic system in the country that would increase productivity and ultimately promote the provision and delivery of key governmental services in the country.

Additionally, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe recounted that the National Democratic Congress flagbearer 24-hour economy when fully implemented would go a long way to address the huge traffic congestion in the major cities in the country, particularly in Accra.
