Director of Elections and IT for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Omane Boamah, has lauded the abilities of the flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama, during his tenure as Vice President in the country.
According to him, the performance of John Mahama stands tall above that of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
He revealed that John Dramani Mahama has an impeccable track record as Vice President and Head of Ghana’s Economic Management Team (EMT).
“Under Mahama’s EMT as Vice President: Total public debt (as of end 2012) was GHS 35.1 billion, Debt to GDP ratio was 48.4 %; the highest growth rate was 14.4%; inflation was at a single digit for 33 months; the exchange rate was 2 cedis to US$1 (One dollar). Total revenue, including borrowed funds, was less than GHS 70 billion.
“Obviously, Bawumia, as Vice President, pales into insignificance when compared with Mahama as Vice President!”
Dr Omane Boamah
Elaborating on his point, Dr Boamah stated that there is a clear difference between the “superior” competence of NDC under Mahama’s presidency and the “gross incompetence” of the “so-called Solid [NPP] Economic Management Team” led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia under President Akufo-Addo.
To this end, he expressed the need for Ghanaians to vote for a President to lead the country based on merits and not hype.
“Ghana needs experience, not experiments! Vote John Dramani Mahama in 2024 to fix the economy.

Meanwhile, former deputy minister of communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has criticized the Vice President following his election as the 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He revealed that the percentage of votes garnered by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the NPP’s flagbearer elections over the weekend proves that he has lost the confidence of Ghanaians to win the 2024 elections.
Bawumia described as not fit for purpose
Mr Ofosu stated that the flagbearer of the NPP can only win a presidential election in the country by polling some 90% of votes in the party’s presidential primaries. With this, he cited the over 90% win for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2014 ahead of the 2016 elections as a case in point.
To this end, he highlighted that the loss of some 40% of votes by Dr Bawumia is evidence of a vote of no confidence in the Vice President.
“Really, with us in the NDC and the rest of the Ghanaian people, Bawumia is not fit-for-purpose and does not have what it takes to govern this country… There is nobody in the NPP’s history who has won elections at least since the NPP voter base was expanded who has had less than 90 percent and won the general elections”.

Furthermore, Mr Ofosu stated that Dr Bawumia’s failure to attain a huge victory in the NPP’s internal elections, is a self-fulfilling prophecy of what could happen in the main elections.
“But it is not surprising that he failed to achieve that because if you look at the NPP, for all their loudness, you see a very muted response to this delegates conference, and it is because they know that the energy and confidence has been sapped away from them because of their appallingly abysmal performance.”
