NDC Exposes Discrepancies on Prestea-Bogoso Mine Recapitalization

Prestea-Bogoso Mine

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency has issued a press statement exposing what it perceives as discrepancies and dishonesty surrounding the recapitalization of the Prestea-Bogoso mine by Future Global Resources (FGR).

The statement issued by the party’s constituency Communication Bureau expressed deep concern over recent communications from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR), citing contradictions and a lack of transparency in the process.

The statement also challenged the honesty of Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi, the current Board Chairperson of the Minerals Commission and further questioned the ruling government’s approach to recapitalising the Prestea-Bogoso mine.

“The NDC – Prestea Huni Valley constituency is deeply concerned by the recent press statement issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) regarding the recapitalization of the Prestea-Bogoso mine by Future Global Resources (FGR). We have taken notice of the discrepancies in the statement, and we would like to set the record straight”.

Central to the National Democratic Congress chapter in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency’s concerns is what it describes as the apparent contradiction between assurances made by Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi, Chairperson of the Minerals Commission, and the content of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resource’s recent press statement.

According to the National Democratic Congress in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency, Mrs Oteng Gyasi had previously assured the local people and the general public that investors had been shortlisted to revitalize the mine, however, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resource’s recent letter makes no mention of such investors or any signed agreements.

The press statement further noted that instead, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources statement granted Future Global Resources an additional 120 days to raise the necessary capital for the mine’s recapitalization, pay outstanding workers salaries, and ensure full operational capacity.

The National Democratic Congress in the Prestea Huni Valley thus accused the Board Chairperson of the Mineral Commission, Mrs. Oteng Gyasi of misleading the public and casting doubt on the government’s credibility in handling the mine’s revitalization efforts.

Criticisms against Mineral Commission’s Board Chairperson

Furthermore, the National Democratic Congress in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency strongly posited that such discrepancies not only undermine confidence in the government’s approach but also reflect poorly on Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi’s honesty and integrity.

The statement emphasized that the perceived false claims allegedly propagated by Mrs Oteng Gyasi have caused confusion and concern among stakeholders, particularly workers and community members reliant on the mine for their livelihoods.

Moreover, the National Democratic Congress in the Prestea Huni Valley accused Mrs. Oteng Gyasi of incompetence, arguing that the Minerals Commission under her leadership, has consistently failed to deliver on promises made to affected workers and communities.

The statement thus urged the public to remain vigilant and expressed the National Democratic Congress’s commitment to monitoring the situation closely and taking necessary actions to ensure the mine’s full operational status.

In a call for transparency and accountability, the National Democratic Congress in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency called upon both the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission to provide clarity on the matter and keep all stakeholders informed of any developments regarding the mine’s recapitalization.

The party also expressed its commitment and relentlessness to advocating for transparency and accountability in all matters concerning the Prestea-Bogoso mine and beyond.

The statement concluded by admonishing the ruling government to review its handling of the Prestea-Bogoso mine’s recapitalization process, highlighting alleged discrepancies, misleading statements, and a lack of transparency that have raised significant concerns among stakeholders.
