The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing has strongly condemned an attack on its members by alleged New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Ahafo Region.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the National Democratic Congress’s National Youth Organizer, George Opare Addo Esq., the party accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of resorting to violence as a desperate strategy ahead of the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.
“On September 7, 2024, some NDC youth were unjustifiably attacked by NPP thugs. The home of our former Constituency Chairperson in the affected area was ransacked, and the Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer, Masawudu Suleman, was assaulted in the same residence”.

NDC Youth Vows Retaliation if Justice Delayed
The statement decried the assault on National Democratic Congress members as an “unjustifiable” attack and warned that the party would not stand idly by if such acts of aggression continue.
Lawyer George Opare Addo, in the statement, called on the Ahafo Regional Police to swiftly act by apprehending the culprits behind the attack.
The Commander of the National Democratic Congress Youth Wing gave the police a 48-hour ultimatum to bring the perpetrators to justice, threatening retaliation if their demands are not met.
“The Ahafo Regional Police have 48 hours to arrest the culprits, or we will retaliate with full force,” the statement declared, further warning that should the police, whom the NDC accused of harboring NPP sympathizers, fail to act, the National Democratic Congress Youth Wing would take matters into its own hands.
“If the agents of the NPP within the Police fail to arrest these lawless hooligans within the next 48 hours, the NDC Youth Wing will respond in a more brutal, decisive, and forceful manner in seven days”.

Allegations of Politically Motivated Violence
Furthermore, the National Youth Organizer of the opposition party, George Opare Addo accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of weaponising violence in various regions across the country in an attempt to intimidate and suppress opposition supporters as election day nears.
He believes this latest attack is part of a broader strategy by the governing New Patriotic Party, which the NDC Youth leader claims is panicking over its diminishing electoral chances.
Lawyer George Opare Addo accused the governing party of attempting to undermine the country’s democratic process through fear and intimidation.
He, however, contended that the National Democratic Congress Youth Wing is keen not to be cowed by these tactics, warning that any further aggression would be met with “swift and decisive action.”
His statement rallied National Democratic Congress youth nationwide, urging them to remain vigilant and “fully prepared to defend themselves at all times” against potential provocations.
This development comes at a time of heightened political tensions across Ghana, as both the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress ramp up their campaigns for what is expected to be a fiercely contested general election.
Reports of violent clashes between supporters of the two major political parties have been on the rise, in recent times, raising concerns about electoral violence.
The National Democratic Congress Youth Wing’s strong stance, coupled with its ultimatum to the police, is likely to further escalate tensions in the run-up to the December polls.
The party’s readiness to retaliate if justice is not served within the given timeframe signals a potential for increased confrontations between the two political factions, underscoring the critical need for strict security and law enforcement measures.
